They need to get rid of Barbara. Worst deals and business intuition ever. This week was only the tip of the iceberg.

Venture capitalists are venal, blood-sucking pigs, so the show is named correctly.

The British version is far superior. I actually think they made the right decision with the woman's clothing line this week. It could really take off.

yeah that womens clothing line I could see down the road making lots of revenue.

Kevin H is a dud, Daymond's low-key but has his moments, Barbara is decent, but Kevin O and Robert really make this show. Maybe I should watch the
Canadian version since those two are on it as well.
I do hope the show gets a second season. The ratings aren't good, but it's cheap, and might work as summer filler. This really is one of the more interesting reality shows to premiere in awhile, and it's really fun to watch these guys try to out-position each other when there's a really solid idea out there. |

One of the so-called "sharks" is Kevin O'Leary who founded a software company called Consumers Software in the 80s. They went around buying
crappy development packages from people. Most of them were crappy because they were only half-assed completed.
Do you remember seeing some cheaply packaged software that had a CD and listed ten or twenty titles - things like Blackjack, Tic Tac Toe, Making Calanders and other cheap-ass shit sold for $5 or $10? That was Consumers Software. They made money - not because the s/w was good - but because there were lots of people who were willing to pay $5 for a bunch of titles figuring the most they could lose was $5. Well, for the most part, they lost their $5 and then some big conglomerate thought this was a great way to make money and they bought O'Leary outh for millions and millions of dollars. There are two guys who are on both the CBC version of this thing called "Dragon's Den" and the ABC version called "Shark Tank". But the funny thing is that O'Leary is so taken with the idea that he is now famous and he seems to love the idea that the whole world just waits on baited breath for the pearls of wisdom he will spread before them. Are his statements really worth their weight in gold? I don't really know. But I do know when I see someone whose head has grown too large for their body and Kevin seems to be caught in this trap. So, it should be funny to watch - if for nothing else - just to see just how much Kevin thinks of himself. You have to give him credit for making billions of dollars - if it is true. Somehow, I suspect that the way they valued the company might have made it look like billions of dollars - but maybe it could just be that they valued the stock price that high and he got payed in stock. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually took home a lot less than he claims. After all, on the CBC's "Dragon's Den", the other four dragons claim to be worth millions. But Kevin claims to be worth billions. So, it should be good for a laugh.

O'Leary is the Simon of the show, but like Simon, many times he's absolutely dead on about something even though he's being a complete ass. He
loathes the types who are just too emotionally invested in the business to see the big picture, because they're the types who tend to not listen to
financial advice.

Kevin O'Leary is without a doubt extremely wealthy. Just check his wikipedia
profile.
The banter between Kevin, Robert and the others on the Dragon's Den is priceless. The Sharks are starting to warm up but they aren't there yet. |

Even if this show never comes back, that final offer was great television. I was honestly intrigued by what would happen next, and it was the closest we've
seen to business moguls and real sharks on both ends making a deal on national television. Good watch. I might even miss it in a few weeks, start watching
Dragon's Den.

Yeah, they really brought out the big bucks and the tough negotiations in that last one.
I really hope there's a second season. Canadian Dragon's Den at least seems difficult to find online. |

I agree. I hope they bring it back for a second season. I hope they get rid of Damon and Kevin. Half the time Damon doesn't make sense and Kevin's
not enough of a risk taker.

The last one I saw ended with the college recruiting database. I'm assuming that was the end of the season... It was great, but seemed staged somehow. The two sharks got all wet and excited (as did the silent partner of the sharkbait who negotiated) and the head geek was stonefaced as hell. I think some of these people were otherwise in the process of negotiating with some of the sharks, and they were invited to continue the negotiations on TV. I'm okay with that, I just thought that these were all blind meetings. I'd keep watching - it was a thousand times better than the ABC Inventors show. |
