It's so easy to get Texans riled up. I've been Austin twice, San Antonio and Houston. And I've driven from Dallas to Austin. Austin is nice, but it's so far from the ocean or mountains. Sort of hot, too. San Antonio is okay and it has some great history. Best chili con carne I've every had, but it's still way too isolated. Houston is just a there. Muggy, flat, downtown is deader than The Mole forum. That climate just rots people's brains to thinking it's nice there. Take away the desert areas, because in less than ten years there isn't going to be enough water for folks to live in the desert anymore and the west is reduced to San Fran, Seattle and Portland. (is it I-84 that goes along the river into Portland? some of the best scenery in the USA outside Moab, UT)

Actually if you cut off the 10-15 miles right along the Atlantic seaboard (let's say north of Richmond east of I-95), the east coast has some great scenery and quiet towns.

But if you just want the bestest city in America, Chicago still wins for over all use of the lake, cleanliness, friendliness, food, activities, culture and sports. if you're bored in Chicago, you're either dead or stupid.
