what's your kids' school policy on sexting... |

We just got a notice that students caught showing or forwarding naked pictures on their cell phone will be referred to the police for prosecution, with the
charge being child pornography if the nakie person is under 18. They will not be prosecuted if they have the images, but do not show them to anyone or forward
to anyone.

And they can enforce this how?

Sounds reasonable to me.

Creeping Ivy wrote: The showing part, that I can't figure out how they enforce it unless the kid it's shown to tells and they go and find the images on the phone. The forwarding, that's traceable. My concern is someone sent my 12 yr old son a delightful porn video. We caught it before he ever saw it, and my husband called the number and told them if we ever got another text or call from them, we'd call the police. But I could see him finding it on his phone, and then saying, "Hey look at this" and show the video to his friends and him getting in trouble....I realize they're trying to cut down on the broken up relationship/revenge photo broadcasting, but I'm not sure how it will play out.. (I did, however, forward the video to my phone and show it to my book club...quite entertaining...) |

You know how elected officials are always getting in trouble for failure to pay taxes or hiring illegal aliens as their housekeepers? 10-15 years from now it
is going to be naked pictures that their ex texted to the entire high school football team. Things will be much more exciting.

So if they're pics of 18+, no charges? Fuck, I'd probably just pass around pics of legal-aged nudes until they and the police get tired of having to
haul me in only to let me go.

Should the question not be, "As a parent, what is your policy on your kid sexting?" Because if my underage kid were caught doing this, prosecution
would be the least of his or her problems.

^ Yep. It's the parent's responsibility to tell their kid that if they get sexted to delete it immediately, or to show it to the parent his or her
cheap thrills. But, if as a parent you've given your 12 year old a cell phone you are already failing anyway.
