NakedWench wrote: Boy howdy, am I ever glad I got my hysterectomy before I hit the change; my periods were like monthly horror movies as it was (adenomyosis, hence the hysterectomy). They left my ovaries in, though, so I'm now going through peri-menopause or menopause or whatever. I'm just tired of sweating. Like ladybugtoes, it's mainly my head, even in Ottawa in the depths of winter! It's ridiculous, but I can't take black cohosh due to high blood pressure. I'm trying various other remedies, none of them helping much, though. Cold sage tea helps a bit, but not with that lovely 4:00 am wakeup every night, when i've kicked off all my covers and my pillow feels like someone stuck it in the oven for an hour. |

A woman I work with is going through the change and all of a sudden she goes beet red then you can literally see the sweat coming off of her. As soon as we
see her going red we all grab a book and start fanning her.

Having not thought ahead in my family planning, I get to start being all perimenopausal while my daughter is heading into puberty.
Should be a fun decade for the boys in the household. And, if one more dr tells me "that's normal at your age", someone is going to get hurt... ::misses mooncup thread:: |

I really shouldn't complain so much, since hormonal stuff hasn't been much of a problem most of my life. Sure the periods were inconveniently messy,
but I skated through my one pregnancy with not a smidge of morning sickness, rarely had cramps, and pms has always meant i get spacey and have the munchies (my
son said my pms was just like being stoned). So I guess I'm due for some wimmin's trouble. Think I could make bandana headbands a new fashion? Or maybe
those terry cloth tennis-y ones?

hot flashesThe correct term is hot flushes - you get flushed, not flashed. How come Americans get that one wrong all the time? (If you get flashed, someone is exposing themselves to you and you should probably run. Or not. I am so fucking glad I am almost done with menopause - it made life hell for years and just about nothing I tried helped. Anybody still going through it - you have my sympathy.
Indeed. And a #$!%!@+ would have also figured out a painless way of giving birth. Compared to what women have to go through, men have it so damn easy. |

I've avoided giving my mom a mooncup (I forced one on my sister for Christmas one year) because I was worried it would jump start her menopause. She's
49 now and still bleeding.

Every single post in this thread has convinced me to die before 35. le sigh, the deadline keeps getting earlier and earlier . . . |

My mom didn't stop till 55 and I'm still going so I imagine I'll probably stop around then. Grrrr. I will say that this whole menopause thing has been pretty easy for me. The only thing I hate is the irregular periods. I don't have hot flashes, my mood swings haven't resulted in any deaths and it's not been the nightmare that some women have to deal with. I've had the friends that sweat rivers, too. It's awful what they go through. I will say that my doc told me that regular exercise plays a big part in regulating your hormones, so maybe that's why I haven't had it too rough. |

I'm pretty sure that my grandmother who had 11 children did a dance when menopause started.

I'm 55 and still bleeding almost every fucking month. After 43 years of this, I CAN'T WAIT for true menopause. So far my symptoms have been very mild
and my skin is still really good (very few wrinkles) so I guess it's a case of being careful what you wish for.
Every time I think I'm done because I've missed a period, my youngest daughter shows up and screws me up with her super-duper female hormones/pheromones. I then get it within a week. I may have to banish her for a year. |

Trixie Delight wrote:This was true for me. Irregular for 2 months. No period for 6 months, then no period for the last 17 months. Very few hot flashes. Other than that, RELIEF that I no longer have to worry about this. And I do exercise regularly. Easy peasy for me. |
