A while ago I was at a restaurant and I got called sweetie by a waitress. I was not offended. I don't see any way that sweetheart would be offensive. Someone mentioned words like little lady, missy, etc, and I agree, those can be considered condescinding, but sweetheart? Come on.

I don't much like being called sweetheart in a professional situation. But, is hosting BB a professional situations? Not in my book. Will did nothing wrong.
If BB (and Chen) didn't like it, they could have found a subtler way of telling Will. Will's not an idiot and wants good TV. Taking him to task for an hour just pissed him off. Dumb move on BB's part. If Julie Chen doesn't like being called sweetheart she should stick to news. If she's going to host an entertainment show then she needs to roll with the punches. Will was just trying to be flirty. Perfectly appropriate in the interview situation. |

don't care much for either one, but Chenbot coming off as a crybaby bc she is making such a big deal over a stupid comment. He called Janelle sweetheart too. It's just his thing. She needs to get over it.

I'm with Chen. Some women are sensitive to that sort of thing, and wouldn't appreciate that, and Will being a grown man, should've known that. He comes on way too strong.
Or... It could simply be a blow to Julie's ego. "I've been called a sweetheart by a fucking REALITY SHOW CONTESTANT!?", was probably running through her mind. She probably sees herself as above Will, so therefore, she took him calling her a "sweetheart: as belittling her, so that's what set her off. |

Sure we love the Chenbot. But we love her because she is so bad. So horribly horribly lame. She has no clue what the show is about. She has no idea who these "houseguests" are. And if anything requires her to depart from the cue cards, she's a disaster (how many live competitions has she flubbed now? who won? who lost? who's out? this season and seasons past).
Her programming simply does not allow for departure from the script. Therefore it is unreasonable to expect her to respond to Will's quip with a humorous comment of her own on the fly. We all know by now that Julie's programming allows for "deer in headlights" response when confronted by the unexpected. There is no "improv" function on Chenbot. If you could see into her electronic brain, it would look something like this-- Will: "Bring a twist. I'm ready to go any time, Sweetheart." Chenbot: [brain scanning possible responses] A) freeze a la dear in headlights B) pained smile, then "Okaaaay." c) standard "but first..." D) "fuck you, asshole." Les had the D) function disabled, though. |

Must add, we know that Will is also nothing but circuitry and wires (his words), so what we have here is a real good old-fashioned robot showdown.
Seriously, I do think there's some truth to the scolding Will took in the DR, but there's no question he's spinning it for his own game purposes. Perfect timing as sequester looms near and his "I want to go home" routine has faded away. This revives it with a fresh angle just in time. |
