I agree with Vic's well considered answer. I too am appalled at the number of abortions provided each year and the women who use it as a form of birth control. But people are not going to stop having sex. The nuclear family is not going to come back - ever. Society is what it is, and longing for the days where sex was kept in the confines of marriage (which we have learned has never been the case) is not going to solve the immediate problem. The only thing we can do is make options available to women who find themselves in a position to decide whether to have a child when they're unprepared to do so or choose the alternative of obtaining an abortion.

I also agree with Alabama's points. Unfortunately, no man will ever know a woman's struggle to have to make that decision, no matter how much of a "Do-Dad!" they think they're going to be. I personally have known several women who made the choice to keep their babies only to have the guys who swore they'd be great dads take a powder. One in in arrears for his child support for $20K; another for more than $10K. I know both of those guys were all excited about the idea of raising their kids - right up until that kid got here and needed to be fed, clothed and changed every day. Does that mean they should have aborted them? No...but it's a glaring example that not every woman is cut out to go it alone in raising a kid.

Ultimately, it's a personal decision, one that should not be made by the government, by any religious groups - frankly, religion needs to be taken out of the discussion completely - or any one segment of the population.
