The game is and always has been based on relationships and personalities. Every "strategic" move and every alliance has at their basis some kind of personal issue with somebody else. In fact, when people DON'T take the game personally, the show turns to shit. In recent seasons, the show has been frighteningly descending into this kind of thinking. In seasons like China, Micronesia, and especially Tocantins we can see the terrible effect the "it's just a game" approach is having (Gabon is a notable exception which is why I love it so <3). We get boring strategy bots like Todd, Amanda and Parvati, one-sided editing only focused on strategy and challenges, and things like the hidden immunity idol. The game was CONSTRUCTED to be taken extremely personal. Lose that aspect and you lose the show.
And Lex is one of the most justified bitter jurors ever. Not only was his relationship with Rob completely different from any alliance we normally see on Survivor, but what Rob did to him was completely different from any boot we normally see on Survivor. I don't get why no one takes the context into consideration.
All Stars doesn't get a lot of love around here but that is the one reason why I enjoyed it. Because the cast were not strangers, ASS played out more like a movie or a soap opera. You saw 2 people who were friends before the season started become each other's worst nemesis and you had 2 people fall in love as well. I think that it is good that all the seasons of Survivor have offered the entier spectrum of of variety from very nice (Outback, Tocantins, Cook Islands) to very mean (All Stars, Thailand, Vanuatu, Gabon).
