Lex is definitely one of the most hated Survivors in history (at least on Sucks), and I can see why. Yes, he was a hypocritical asshole in ASS, but before that, surprisingly he was actually pretty well-respected round these parts. On the other hand, I morphed from absolutely despising him in Africa to *getting* him in All-Stars. First of all, if you do a little extra reading you can find out that Lex and the Boston Slob were more than just acquaintances, they were really close friends. Rob used to call Lex and his wife all the time, like when he was breaking up with girlfriends, etc. What Rob did was disgusting, unnecessary and inexcusable. How would you feel if a "friend" of yours cruelly and personally took advantage of you and humiliated you in a "game" that is broadcast for millions of people? Not too good. So I don't blame Lex for going off on Rob. Even though arguably he did the same thing to Ethan, it was nowhere near as personal and nasty. Most of all, I LOVED Lex's final speech to the final 2. Folks, this is not just a game, like chess or Monopoly. I DESPISE that philosophy. The game is and always has been based on relationships and personalities. Every "strategic" move and every alliance has at their basis some kind of personal issue with somebody else. In fact, when people DON'T take the game personally, the show turns to shit. In recent seasons, the show has been frighteningly descending into this kind of thinking. In seasons like China, Micronesia, and especially Tocantins we can see the terrible effect the "it's just a game" approach is having (Gabon is a notable exception which is why I love it so <3). We get boring strategy bots like Todd, Amanda and Parvati, one-sided editing only focused on strategy and challenges, and things like the hidden immunity idol. The game was CONSTRUCTED to be taken extremely personal. Lose that aspect and you lose the show. So congrats Lex! You're hypocritical and kinda douchey, but at least you have morals and the courage to take a stand, which earns you a coveted spot in the top 40. |

As far as that line of thinking being boring television, look up Richard Hatch or Will Kirby. You contradict yourself by demanding people to have
"morals" in the game, but at the same time you want them to be irrational train wreaks. You can't have it both ways.

It KILED Amanda to turn on her friends - that's why she didn't want to do it to James again. That why voting off Cirie was so hard for her, and partly why she struggled with juries. And Parvati was loyal to her best girls and had their passioante loyalty. Remember, Amanda was like a little sister. I don't blame Ozzy for being bitter as much as some. But he did vote off Parv in Cooks despite her best efforts to flirt, so turnabout is fair play. Lesson: Never put 100% trust in a woman you have scorned. |
