Posts: 252 (05/21/09 1:08 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	There's no question their favorites were Adam and Danny, but I'd say they favored people like Lil, Allison, Matt, and maybe even Megan and Alexis over Kris (at the beginning). America loves underdogs and once Kris slipped by long enough, America probably got bored with the judges slobbering so much over Adam and Danny that their favoritism backfired. I'm glad they did overdo it in retrospect! :D There's no doubt Kris did a lot on his own to gain support, but would he have won without his underdog story? I wonder if they'll try to tone it down and be more fair next season.

Yeah, they go on board with Cookie much sooner than with Kris, but Cookie was not originally one of the chosen ones. I think that some people vote the way the judges tell them to and some deliberately vote against the way the judges tell them to. Overall, it probably evens out, but it depends on the specific case. I think Kris benefited from a lot of factors, one of which being the over-the-top pimping for Adam.

I doubt they'll tone it down, they've been doing this every season since the beginning, usually the fawning doesn't have an adverse impact on TCO, unless TCO one royally fucks it away on their own (Tamyra Gray) or just doesn't have enough star quality to sustain a fanbase (Melinda). I think what sets Adam apart from other chosen ones is the cultural undercurrent playing this season. I think if Gokey had been eliminated earlier in the season his fans wouldn't have been nearly as motivated to get behind no punKris in the final. However, they didn't want their boy to lose it all to the "gay" guy when he'd come so close. If Danny had gone out 5th or even 4th I think Adam would've won easily. JMHO of course.

No matter when he got voted out, a number of his fans would have gravitated to another Idol rather than stop voting entirely, and I think Kris would be the obvious recipient of those votes just based on the way he sings. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with a rivalry or with gayness at all.

I disagree and their actions don't reflect that at all. After Allison was eliminated Simon was giving interviews saying that he flat out wanted Adam and Danny in the final two, but Kris outperformed everyone once they finally sang that week. As for David Cook, he was at least one of their top 3 favorites every week once the finals started (and often their favorite). I think they were expecting Michael to be their rocker guy winner, but he never delivered so they jumped over to David. David still got A LOT of airtime before the voting rounds though. Kris hardly got any! I didn't even know who he was but I just thought he was hot.

Danny tried all season to beat Adam in the screaming department, he failed miserably but he still tried. I think anyone who favored Danny musically is as deaf as Helen Keller and therefore wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Kris and Adam's singing styles.

They pimp their favorites all the freakin' time. It seems that half of the time it works (Carrie, Fantasia, Ruben, etc) and other times it doesn't (Daughtry, Justin/Tamyra, etc.) This is just one of the years it didn't work.

Seems to me like Anoop was the show's intended underdog story of the season- not making it through week 1, being picked last for wildcard, being ripped to shreds after Beat It, and then going from "zero to hero" after Always on My Mind. Once they built him up though, I don't think he lived up to the potential they were hoping for and they gave up on the storyline. Kris was more of a fly-under-the-radar type underdog, but that makes an even better story since the producers didn't plan it (at least I don't think they did).

Danny was trying to diva it up. I also think that half of Danny's fans were because of his story, not his singing. I think those fans went to Kris.
