AHHH! How did I not start this thread ages ago??
I LOVED V as a kid, every [part of it including the show (which was much better than it gets credit for. An 80s series that is actually quite nicely continuity-driven and serialized but not overly so). I must have re-watched both minis dozens of times and relished their release on both VHS and DVD. The series coming out on DVD was a dream come true as I had missed the big wedding ep when my fam went ot the movies and the VCR didn't record it. Very excited about the new show. The preview clips look great. Morena seems to be an awesome Diana. PS When I empty my recycle bin on my desktop I get the sound effect of Pamela saying to Diana in "Final Battle" "We will rid you of this nuissance once and for all." :D |

I used to love this show back in the 80's. Glad to see that they are still reptiles (at least, they seem to be) instead of something stupid.
I'll be waiting for this to start. |

I see little chance this will survive more than a season...sci-fi has had little success on network tv recently, leaving most of the viewers to be established
fans of the franchise, and since they're starting the story over, it would probably take several weeks at least before we got to material that wasn't
already known to those fans.
Not to say I'm not intrigued. It basically looks like they're doing to V what Abrams just did to Star Trek. I wonder if Lost Juliet is playing V Juliet or if her character is an amalgam of Juliet and Donovan. The journalist in the second clip could be Donovan but the way he acted it seemed like he'll be the converted mouthpiece. I'm glad it's not on until spring because the FX in those clips look worse than the original. |

Mitchell's character is an FBI agent (not a scientist like Juliet Parrish) but she has a kid like Donovan. I don't imagine they'd get Bailey to
play a simple mouthpiece collaborater. We'll see though.

This is one of those things you don't want to experience as an adult because it will ruin your memories of it. You know, like Salem's Lot or The Museum
of Science and Industry.
Plus that Lost blonde chick is one of the top 5 worst actresses currently on television. |

I stayed loaded in the 80s & missed this then. What's the basic premise? (I can't do vids on my computer.)

Fluffynurse wrote:Basic premise (from original series, which will be probably slightly changed here and there for the re-telling) is: aliens arrive on Earth in 50 motherships across the globe. They come in peace and meet with world leaders. They need a common element available on Earth that's crucial for their lives. In exchange they offer scientific breakthroughs including things like cures for cancer etc. On the cusp of these developments being done the aliens are attacked by what turns out to be apparently a conspiracy amoung Earth's scientific community. The aliens must 'reluctantly' hold off on the science developments. The Scientist quickly become scapegoats, earning the ire of the population at large. People are rounded up and disappear. People collaborate with the aliens. A reporter snoops around and discovers the aliens' secret: they're lizard-like humanoids who are planning on stealing all of the earths water and large chunks of the population for.... food. Humans start gathering in small groups forming a loosely organized Resistance. The mini was a large ensemble featuring people in all parts of society, primarily in and around LA focusing primarily on journalism Mike Donovan and scientist Juliet Parrish. The original mini was a parable about how Nazis came to power in Germany. |

What's the basic premise? Alien spacecraft appear over Earth's major cities. The Visitors look human and offer cultural and technological advances in exchange for some of our water. They start "recruiting" people, including children, to help spread the good news, and when scientists and conspiracy theorists start wondering if something more sinister is going on, the public is manipulated into dismissing them; the Visitors are our friends, they're told. A resistance forms and discovers that the Visitors really are up to no good and plan to take not only our water but our bodies as food, and that they're actually reptiles wearing human skin. The story is essentially a sci-fi allegory of Nazi Germany. I actually never saw the series but the two mini-series are among television's finest examples of classic science fiction. |

If it's ABC then having Juliet on both shows is not that much of a conflict of interests. :)

Thanks Anti & CP. This sounds great. I'd be on board as long as it doesn't conflict with something else I'm already hooked on.

I loved this show in the 80's and watched it many times on VHS.
Loved Andrew, the sneaky lizard captain; and Frank, the mild mannered, but sure-shot Fifth Column leader. Can't wait for the remake...I hope they do it justice. |

The original miniseries is on youtube somewhere. I watched it on my lunch breaks a couple years ago. It was still great.
