Survivor: Vanuatu - Islands of Fire (also known as Survivor: Vanuatu for short) was the ninth season of the United States reality show Survivor. Filmed in Summer 2004, the game took place on Vanuatu, a chain of volcanic islands in the South Pacific.

Survivor: Vanuatu debuted on September 16, 2004. Also debuting that day was Survivor Live, an hour-long Internet talk show hosted by the original Sole Survivor Richard Hatch and Entertainment Tonight correspondent Chris Booker. The talk show, airing every Thursday and Friday on the CBS website, interviews former contestants and reviews the players' gameplay.

On December 12, 2004, Chris Daugherty defeated Twila Tanner by a vote of 5-2 to become the sole survivor. The DVD for this season was released on December 5, 2006.

1. Bubba. He came in wearing a shirt with Bob Barker on it. He ended up getting switched over to the women's tribe, and then before a challenge he told Chris on the opposing tribe, "Remember the merge." You see, because the smart thing Lopevi should've done is throw the challenges so they could vote off the women and give the men a slight edge. Of course, the problem is that the guys were fucking idiots, so they won, and Bubba ended up earning the ire of Ami, and if there's one thing to learn from all this, you don't fucking piss off Ami. Bubba got the boot as a result of what he said.
2. Rory. A grown-ass man who pissed off his male tribemates a lot. In one of Survivor's classic misspellings, John P thought his name was spelled Royry. He got switched to the women's camp, where he felt he was treated like a slave, which was all the more humorous because he was black. He repeatedly threatened to burn the camp down, though sadly he didn't, and ended up finding that little crack and making his way to the merge, where sadly he was the first voted out from the merged tribe. Oh well.
3. Chad. Before there was TAR10's Sarah, there was Chad. He had a prosthetic leg, and other than that... who? He pretty much coasted through the pre-merge, and made it to 8th in the post-merge before being booted because he was a bigger threat than Chris. Yes, the guy with one leg was a bigger challenge threat than fucking Chris. Chad was alright, but he was pretty invisible for a guy with one leg, especially considering how TAR shoved Sarah down our throat. I guess Survivor's just better at casting handicapped people than TAR, since their handicapped people are less obnoxious and their handicaps aren't shoved down our throats like TAR likes to do (see Christy/Luke as another example).
4. Leann boot. So it was down to Chris for the men six other women. Chris was set to be the next to go, until he got to see his fiance, at which point they felt sorry for him and decided to boot Eliza instead. Scout and Twila saw this as an opening, and got together Chris, whose days were numbered anyway, and Eliza, who didn't like the women but reluctantly joined them anyway since she was a target, and since Ami had immunity, they decided to get together and boot Leann. It was one of those great game-changing blindsides the other side never saw coming, and the best part was watching Ami seethe with anger for an entire episode before she too was booted.
5. Ami. Touted as one of Survivor's first lesbians (though Sonja is said to be a lesbian, there may be a couple more before Vanuatu, and I hear Ami's actually bi anyway, so take that statement with a grain of salt). She was pretty much in charge of the entire game for awhile. She dominated the women's tribe and essentially decided the boot order up to the merge, where she continued her reign by pagonging the guys. She was fierce and ruthless and made for a great villain. But every villain must have their downfall, and Ami's was the Leann boot. She spent the next three days pissed off until her eventual boot. She was a great character and for that reason was able to get on Micronesia.
6. Julie. She wasn't really that interesting a character for someone who made the F5, but there are a couple things worth talking about here. The guys decided to keep her over John K, thus voting off one of their own guys for a chance to get in with the girls, which ended up being an idiotic mistake that fucked them over and cost most of them the game. But more importantly, after the show she actually dated Jeff Probst for a few years. They eventually broke up, but an interesting observation that kind of tainted the reunion.
7. Eliza. Before her awesome appearance on Micronesia, Eliza was struggling to stay in the game. She was a constant target, but managed to stay alive as a plucky underdog. She made the merge, the guys went, and then she became a target, forcing her to join Twila and Scout, two people she disliked. She argued with them constantly, and eventually got booted at the F4 because Chris wanted to go against two weaker people in the F3. She's also one of the few Survivors to semi-regularly post at Sucks long after her seasons were over. Hey, Eliza!
   
8. Scout. She was an old lesbian with a ill-fitted prosthetic knee, which she used to blame her horrible challenge performances. At least she made up for it with some smarts, as she pulled some good moves that got her far. She allied with Twila, and together they changed the game with the Leann boot and got Chris as a third. Of course, the flaw in their plan was that both were horrible at challenges, and though Chris sucked ass too, he was less sucky and ended up booting Scout in favor of Twila for the F2. Scout's legacy at Sucks however isn't from anything she did in Vanuatu however, but instead her CBS blogs for later seasons, where she'd write these epic novels of how much she loved alpha males and shit. One time she wrote on some other site with comments, and damn did that turn out ugly once Sucks found it.
9. Twila. She was a decent game player, but she had a pretty poor social game overall considering how she argued with pretty much everybody, from Ami to Eliza. She did not get along with most people, though she did stick with Scout and later Chris. She made it to the F2 against a jury who hated her, and despite getting the votes of the two gay people (a trend that continued in Palau and Guatemala), still lost. Oh well.
   
10. Chris. One of the biggest underdog stories in Survivor history. In the very first challenge, he couldn't cross a fucking balance beam and cost his tribe immunity because of it and almost got voted out. He then got his tribe to vote out the young guys, and opted to keep Julie over John K. So Chris was horrible at challenges and played a horrible strategic game. However, there's a third aspect to playing Survivor that people overlook, namely the social game, and that was what Chris dominated at. He managed to appear sympathetic enough that the women switched to Eliza, which caused the Leann boot and for Chris to have a new alliance with Scout and Twila. He pretty much came into power at F5, deciding between his alliance and Julie/Eliza, choosing the older women and kicking their asses in the F3. In the F2, Chris delivered probably one of the most amazing jury performances in Survivor history, sweet-talking the entire cast unabashedly and spouting so much bullshit that it was amazing he got away with a 5-2 vote. Chris may have sucked in challenges, and he may have been horrible at strategy, but you cannot deny that he has an amazing social game which managed to get him from being outnumbered 6-1 to the winner of Survivor: Vanuatu.
