Um, because anyone with any sense knows that AI is a machine that turns out a lot of successful singers: Carrie, Kelly, David Cook, Douchetry, Jennifer Hudson, etc..... The question is why wouldn't you WANT to write another hit song that makes you even MORE money?

Yeah, you might make more money, but so closely associating yourself with a cheesy, terrible show which is way past its prime is an enormous step DOWNWARDS. Plus, they don't have any control over who ultimately gets the song. For all they know, the second coming of Clay Aiken will win, and they will forever be linked to that person because of the song.

They had a blip of a music career, so dumbass, I don't think Prince would be sinking any lower by writing a little diddy for an AI winner. ETA: If they must sing an original song at the finale, why can't it be a love song that the contestant and Ricky Minor can arrange to their strongpoint, rather than a faux inspirational song desparately trying to capture the moment? That is an excellent idea.

I said he hasn't had a hit in years- probably because he hasn't RELEASED an album since 2007 (Planet Earth). Not the same as not being able to write a hit song, dahling. This discussion is a moot issue since AI will never shell out that kind of money anyway. I guess you would prefer more drek coming from people like Kara DiaGagme than someone who has talent that can write songs since you wanted to argue this so fervently.

And for him to write a song for Idol would be extremely expensive. They're not gonna spend that kind of money because it means they will make less money. The point: highly unlikely Prince is ever going to write a song for an unestablished (and, at the time of writing, undetermined) singer from AI. It wouldn't be all about him. And as if I would really prefer a song from Kara. I'm sure as hell not going to spend any money on any of these people outside of the show, and it's very highly unlikely that I'll ever hear any of their songs ever again. I was called a dumbass for even suggesting that Prince would associate himself with American Idol. I forgot that he hawks for Target though! That means he would never stoop to writing a song for the AI machine. ::shrug::

What they need to do next year is narrow it down to the 8 finalists or whatever like last year. Once they narrow it down to the final 8, then let the CONTESTANTS pick their own final song based on the Final 8. That way they get a song the contestants (more than likely) believes in and hopefully fits his/her voice better.
