It sounds like we may have three very young actors who take turns doing the role. Is that basically it? In that case, folks may just decide that any boy in
the role of Billy Elliott deserves to win, or they can't be bothered to see all three versions, and the Billy Elliott people have lumped them altogether,
so they all win.
No, I suspect Constantine will not be able to beat them. Billy Elliott is going to sweep. It got nominated for everything. RoA may not win anything at all. Still, that's a significant milestone for Constantine. He's been off the show four years and his career is actually beginning to gather momentum than crash and burn. There was a time when the latter seemed very likely, but it didn't happen.

If you want to know something that doesn't make sense, its in 1960 when all the children playing the Von Trapp children were jointly nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a musical despite them all having separate roles and some of them being boys. Where the Billy Elliot producers really messed up is how they didnt petition for the two boys who are playing Michael to be considered jointly, because they assumed nobody would nominate them. Of course the stupid Tony nominating commitee did, so now the boy who went on opening night is nominated while the other one isnt, and half the Tony voters wont even see the person who is actually nominated. |

No, the petition should have been denied. The best actor should have been selected by the producers to go on opening night and been the one to be evaluated for a Tony. |

It would be beyond unfair to say to the two kids who give a great performance 2 or 3 times a week, sorry but your night in the rotation didn't come up on opening night, no nom for you! You're right. I haven't seen it. I have seen OTHER Broadway shows with bad kid actors ("Falsettos", "Into The Woods"...), though.
And I have been told in at least one cast that another kid who shares the rotation with them is much better... Perhaps these producers are more vigilant about
weeding out mediocrity, but on Broadway, it's hardly a given...

I'm probably one of the very few but I was glad when he found this niche, the kind of thing I pictured him doing. Haven't seen the show or his
competition and don't know if he deserves the nom though.

He also does live concerts all the time in 300-400 seat clubs. I went to one. It was jam-packed, even though the show was at 9:30 on a Tuesday night, and there
was a somewhat hip Hollywood crowd. Constantine has been pretty smart about how he's parlayed his Idol exposure into a career. He's not now (nor will
he probably ever be) a huge star, but he can make a good living doing what he wants to be doing. That's a hell of a lot better than most Idol runners-up
can say...
