Did anyone notice that Jack's, Kate's and Daniel's was graying slightly? I never noticed it until a scene tonight. Could they be aging unnaturally?
Again, if it's been discusssed at length, feel free to Frenchie me (that sounded wrong).

Forgive me if this is a "Frenchie's in Rent" comment, but I looked back as much as I can in this episode thread and didn't see this asked:

I think the smoke monster must be around in the past. Why would Dharma have built a house with a secret room leading to the summoning chamber and the sonic
fence otherwise?

A lot bugged me about this episode, but much of it can be distilled down to inconsistent character behavior. The whole thing with, "Let's go get a
lot of guns!" to the bizarre, out-of-the-blue shootout at the OK VW Corral seemed like utterly forced writing. Those guys drive up in the van, toting
their weapons, start yelling - - why?
And Daniel? Yeah, his 'death' (the island is a bit like Pet Semetary in that respect) was sort of telegraphed, but he went from holding a gun like it was a dead possum ("you have one for beginners?") to casually walking into the Hostiles camp like Rambo, shooting away and doing the Hans Gruber "I'm going to count to three" crap on Richard. My gosh, the Daniel BTE (before this episode) would have talked to Richard, mumbled about space/time, etc. That could have been a very entertaining scene. Instead, the writers began with the end premise (mama shoots her son) and worked back, clumsily, from that. There was a lot right with this episode, but a lot wrong. |

this is going to sound really stupid, but, where has Daniel been all this time? I don't remember him leaving the island to go to the mainland to do
research. What episode was that in?

About the whispers - Little Ben heard the whispers when he went into the woods and saw Alpert. He also "saw" his mom in his window.
When Widmore said he'd planted the airplane, etc. I yelled "Yes, thank God!" because now that argument can be put to rest. RIP, Daniel. I hated to see his character die but I have to believe that the writers will not have him die in vain. I loved most of the episode, but one thing that pissed me off is that it was the 100th episode, and yet so many major characters were not even featured. I mean, this is a huge milestone for the series, and for major players like Ben, Said, Sun, and Locke to not even have a cameo is a bit of a letdown.S-A-Y-I-D!!!

It wasn't enough that the announcer told us it was Widmore last week. People still thought it was Ben's doing. I cheered when Widmore uttered those words. NOW maybe they'll believe. W00t. |

This might be extremely nit-picky on my part, but their is no way that Daniel could be a biological child of Eloise and Charles. Daniel has brown eyes and both Eloise and Charles have blue so it is genetically impossible for them to have a brown eyed child. So this leads me to think that maybe someone else fathered Daniel, perhaps brown eyed Alpert, or they took Daniel from someone else. It could also be that the lost writers are pulling things out of their asses as they go along. I doubt they took this into consideration. They love leaving small and subtle hints, but IMO I think this is looking too deep. My theory is that Charles and Eloise had an affair on the island in which she became pregnant with Daniel. Penny comes from Charles's girlfriend (possibly wife?) off the island, who later dies, leaving Penny to be raised by Charles. Eloise raised Daniel separately, as she and Charles were not a couple, and each had a job to do to ensure everything continued on the correct course. |

bakercat wrote:Because I feel like boring everyone... Ask a Geneticist
by Ky Sha, Stanford University Is there any possible way for two blue-eyed parents to have a green or brown-eyed child? Is it possible for a green-eyed person and a blue-eyed person to have a brown-eyed child? First, the answer is yes to both questions: two blue-eyed parents can produce green or brown-eyed children. Eye color is not the simple decision between the brown (or green) and blue versions of a single gene. There are many genes involved and eye color ranges from brown to hazel to green to blue to? How does eye color work? Eye color comes from a combination of two black and yellow pigments called melanin in the iris of your eye. If you have no melanin in the front part of your iris, you have blue eyes. An increasing proportion of the yellow melanin, in combination with the black melanin, results in shades of colors between brown and blue, including green and hazel. What we are taught in high school biology is generally true, brown eye genes are dominant over green eye genes which are both dominant over blue eye genes. However, because many genes are required to make each of the yellow and black pigments, there is a way called genetic compensation to get brown or green eyes from blue-eyed parents.
Now let's say that dad has blue eyes because of a mutation in both his copies of gene A and mom because of a mutation in both her copies of gene D. As I am sure you know, we have two copies of each gene, one from our mom and one from our dad. If either parent gives you a brown version of a gene, it will be dominant over the blue copy. Let's suppose that mom gives you a brown copy of gene A and dad gives you a brown copy of gene D. What color eyes would you have? Brown. (The same argument works for green eyes as well.) Another common genetic process that could be responsible for brown eyes from blue-eyed parents is called recombination. When eggs and sperm are made, only one of a pair of chromosomes gets put into an egg or sperm. Before this happens, there is a bunch of DNA swapping that goes on between the pair of chromosomes. Sometimes when the DNA is swapped or recombined, DNA mutations get fixed.
Now imagine that when his sperm is being made, the middle part of the eye color gene is switched between the two genes resulting in one brown eye gene and one blue eye gene with two mutations. Now dad can produce a brown-eyed child. (Again, the same argument works for a green eye gene as well.) Another way to get brown eyes from blue-eyed parents is for something in the environment to affect the eye color gene. Even though there are well-documented cases in which this happens, the reasons for it are pretty poorly understood. There are cases, for example, of certain drugs changing a person's eye color?the environment clearly has changed what happened to eye color in this case. Another possibility is that a gene is on or off for some reversible reason instead of an irreversible change in DNA. In this case, something in the environment reverses the change, turning the eye color gene back on or off |

I didn't find it out of character for Kate to get some guns. They've used guns a lot in the past. I don't think it was a bad idea either.
Considering some of what has happened it wasn't a bad idea to be armed. I'm surprised so many are taking issue with that. That being said, it was bad
writing for Daniel. Many times Daniel has chosen not to use force or violence and the writers even had him say he wanted a gun for beginners. So to have him
go in guns blazing was completely inconsistent. I understand his desparation to change things, but the writers did a terrible job laying the ground work for
Daniel being shot.
