(although, perhaps that was the problem). I never really get why Idols fail because really, if Ashley Simpson can be a successful artist then there's no reason why all the idols shouldn't be able to be successful.

She was overweight by the standards of the industry, she behaved like a very, very precocious child but she was marketed as an adult contemporary artist. If you compare her to the later female "teen" contestants like Allison Iraheta, Jordin Sparks, and Paris Bennett, you will see her problem more clearly. Her image and the songs they pigeonholed her into were not ones that would attract young teens, her primary target demographics. Don't Cry Out Loud was a fabulous performance... but she's not Lulu and it's no longer 1978. At least Paris got to sing Mary J Blige, yo, and Jasmine Murray was compared to Rihanna. GOKEYOWNAGE!!!!

Based on their performances on the show I don't see how Fantasia proved she was a better singer. Diana blew her out of the water vocally on many occasions, including the finale. Diana may have been a little pageanty which perhaps isn't everyone's flavour but she was hardly clueless on stage. She even grew throughout the competition and became a better performer. I don't see how the shit Fantasia does constitutes being a better performer. Based on her last performance on AI you seem to think shouting incoherently and jumping around like a maniac is good singing and performing.

Diana was like a fucking robot who just stood up on stage and sang like she was programed to do (Much like Carriebot in S4). Girl had no emotion, no stage presence, no "HOLY CRAP BITCH YOU BETTER SANG" moments ever.
