I'm glad DrewB brought up Elton John night, maybe the all-time greatest suckfest in Idol's history. Yeah, Diana's mediocre, high school talent
show-ish I'm Still Standing ("...sounding like a little kid") was her worst performance. SHE even thought so. But it pales in comparison to these
all-time classics:
George Huff, in HIS worst performance, pointlessly bouncing up and down to Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah in the unfathomable Take Me To The Pilot. Camile Velasco getting stuck in the wrong key in Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and sounding like a dying goat as she unsuccessfully tried to work her way back. Perhaps THE classic Idol trainwreck performance ever! John Stevens painfully braying an even worse Na Na Nah Nah Nah Nah chorus in Crocodile Rock, demonstrating for all time his complete inability to sing anything uptempo. Jon Peter Lewis flatly faking his way through the falsetto notes in Rocket Man, while being careful as usual to show no emotion and make no moves onstage that required any effort. Plus more run of the mill bad performances by Mantasia and Jasmine. Elton, to his credit, saw the horrors that awaited us and "couldn't fit the show into his busy schedule." Thank God for Jennifer Hudson (and Latoya, the only other singer who was any good that night). So I think Diana's oh so awful performance was, at worst, in the middle of the group that week. |

Maybe I just didn't expect anything from Camille/John/Jasmine/JPL, but I remember coming away from that show ANGRY at Diana for sucking so bad. I tend to
hate it worse when somebody with ability sucks than when somebody simply doesn't have ability.
For the record, though, I liked George that week. |

Diana's I'm Still Standing is wonderfully hilarious for "hey girl!" she gave to Amy Adams as she ran by her. As much as I liked Diana, her
constant "come on ya'll!'s" and the like got on my nerves.

Diana had some really bad performances and ended up in the bottom 3 a few times because of it, but she also had some really great performances like Broken Wing
(which was was undeservedly in the bottom 3 for) and Don't Cry Out Loud which was the best performance from that season. It sucks that she got screwed over
from winning because the judges were too busy pimping up the warbling banshee that was Fantasia.

And I was only taking about white women. Personally I don't see what the big difference is, but somewhat overweight latinas like Tatiana, Vanessa Oliverez
or Allison seem to be much more acceptable to Simon.

Most people probably ignored that particular performance of Diana's when it came to the end because a)it was early in the season and long forgotten and
b)they said on the show she said a bad case of laryngitis so people probably gave her a pass.
Lil on the other hand who apparently had laryngitis this week doesn't deserve a pass because it's been weeks and she has yet to give a good performance. Diana wipes the floor with the likes of Lil and she did deserve to be F2. Also before you rant on about how she didn't deserve F2 consider her competition, Jasmine? John? JPL? The only one you could argue should have been F2 over her was La Toya who imo was boring as fuck. Diana's singing chops were up there with La Toya and she proved it on many occasions, especially toward the end with "Don't Cry Out Loud," "Enough is Enough" and "No More #%%!+." Bad performance or not I don't see it as unforgivable, especially considering she was sick and she did end up in the bottom 3 for it, the other 2 in the bottom being Camile who sucked even worse on "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and Jasmine Trias. |

People are suggesting that she was screwed for not winning - I'm saying that she was DAYUM lucky to have made it to final 2 with a performance like that on her record. I don't see how anybody who saw her do that could ever cast a single vote for her again on that night or any other night. So judging by your standards anyone who gives one bad performance should never be given a chance at winning and should have their entire career suffer because of it? She wasn't great that night, buts it was hardly the "zomg worst performance ever!" that you're making it out to be. |

Jasmine was better than Latoya's very good "Someone saved my life tonight?" No. Better than Jennifer's magnificent "Circle of
Life?" Absolutely not. I like Jasmine better than a lot of Sucksters do, but anybody thinking she was the best that night needs to rewatch their tape or
youtube clips again!
So (forgetting for now about Mantasia's own very long list of DIS-credits), what WAS the worst performance ever by somebody making the final two? It's a good question, and I'll go through my own personal list of worsts (admittedly, I am forgetting a few). Diana we already discussed to death. I thought Kelly, Ruben, and Bo were NEVER bad, so I'll forget about including them. Justin's PYT was bad, but it wasn't awful. I thought Clay's Grease, famously hated by Simon, was also just run of the mill bad. Carrie's Piece of my Heart, while her only bad performance, wasn't awful. Ditto with Taylor's worst, "Take me home, country roads." I thought Jordin gave 3 bad performances: semis week 2 when she was almost voted off, the No Doubt song, and one other I can't remember at all now. None were truly horrible, though. Blake and Archie, neither of whom I cared for, had a TON of bad ones. Blake I've mostly tried to blot out of my mind (I only liked him occasionally) but Archie's worst has to be either We Can Work It Out on top 12 night (he forgot the lyrics) or the hideous newer song he butchered in the middle part of top 3 night. Cook had a bad streak in the middle of the season; the one he did on top 8 night by holding out his hand (which had something scribbled on it) stands out as the worst to me. I've left out one contestant, because I think she, and not Diana, had the worst performance by anybody in the finale that I liked at all (i.e. excluding Mantasia and Blake). It's Katherine McPhee's tuneless screech of a Christina Aguilara song (title mercifully forgotten) which rightly put her into the bottom 2 on season 5's disasterous top 10 night. She was wearing a silly combination lesbian/equestrian outfit, if that helps jog anybody's memory. I loved Katherine a lot of the time, but that night she was truly awful. |
