Drew B wrote: This. Some of the flavor profiles seemed to get lost in translation when trying REAL Mexican food when I went there last summer. The food was un-fucking-believable; Oaxacan spicy pulled pork outside Chichen Itza (the BEST pork I have ever had in my entire life), lime juice-soaked tortillas with beef, tripe, and cow heart mixed all up together. The "Mexican" food that you might get at a Taco Bell is a bastardization of real Mexican food. Nachos do not exist in Mexico, the tacos are not filled to the brim with lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes (most of the time), and I don't recall ever seeing a chalupa in the country, ever. I was glad to see that Rick won because of his amazing Mexican cuisine, and I can't wait to have the opportunity later on in life to eat at his restaurant. |

I finally got to see the finale. It made my mouth water the whole time they were serving. I have to go out for a really fine dining experience again soon.
I generally am not a big fan of heavily spiced food and HATE cilantro, so mexican is rarely a good meal for me. But Bayless seems to have that style down. I would have loved to try his mole sauce though. Was cool to see the sous chefs helping out. And looking back at the winners, I was not inspired by any of them in retrospect. |

Nachos were invented by a guy named Nacho in Texas to make a bunch of military wives happy. Then it was popularized because they put it on the menu at the
Rangers stadium with liquid cheese

Just finished watching the finale. I was glad that Rick won (would of preferred Hubert but oh well) but I was really afraid that Michael would take it. Like
others pointed out he seems to have zero respect for any of the other Top Chef alumni. He comes across as the typical TV personality, super friendly and quite
the showman to the camera/customers but treats the behind the scenes crew like complete crap.
I hope they have another Masters series next summer or at least bring in some of the Masters judges for future Top Chef shows as guest judges. I wasn't keen on them at first but now they have grown on me and I'm annoyed I have to listen to Tom again for another season. |

I was pulling for Hubert but was very glad to see Rick win. Especially when he talked again about his charity. It's a great cause. That mole looked
spectacular. And yes Padma was right in that Mexican gets very little foodie cred so it was a nice way to highlite it. Everyone's meals looked amazing
though. I was also happy to see Michael lose. He was still a douche in this episode.

Hubert consistently had the more beautiful, more impressively presented dishes. To a TV audience, that's important. We didn't get to taste their food.
It's obvious Bayless won on how his food tasted.

I'm SO HAPPY Bayless won. He was my boy from the start. <333
And yes, oh god, good fine dining Mexican food is just awesome. I do love me some tacos too, though. YUM YUM GIMME SUM! |

My mom came into the kitchen to find me sitting in a mess of chocolate powder, happily licking my fingers. I'm thinking I probably got my butt beat for it, but I don't remember that part for certain. |

My first food memory was getting spanked for eating dry Gravy Train out of the bag. I was prolly around two.

If you are near Chicago or can arrange to be, Topolobompo is featuring Bayless' winning tasting menu until October 10. I highly recommend it.

God Art Smith is just a media whore. Between his endless name dropping (being Oprah's chef is like being Amy Winehouse's dealer. Not exactly a picky customer) but he's also competed on Iron Chef America and served as a judge. That he made it as far as he did in Masters is sad. |

I've seen him judge Iron Chef a few times.. never saw his competition tho.

He faced off against Cat Cora. Battle: Cheddar.
Cat won 49-44 |

Great news! I really enjoyed the masters and am glad they are going to do it again. And I enjoy the fact that there are different judges and a different
hostess than TC.
