See, I tend to think that the town/barracks has sort of been retconned to be closer to the beach than the s3 wide shot indicates.

Right, pussycow.
Ive looked over that "Eggtown" episode as well before i posted above...but im of the impression that that body of water isnt related to the ocean, or the submarine dock at all. At best its a lagoon, but most likely its a lake. And the boathouse held equipment for Dharma people to utilize the lake for various things. Its very much walking distance from the houses...we see Kate walking with a tray of food to it. The picture you have with the sub is the harbour and wharf dock (the dock we see Sun, Lapidus, Ben, and Locke land on in 2007...also the dock we see Widmore being given his farwell on) The Pala Ferry dock is the one where Ben had the losties with sacks on their head and sent Micheal on his way..much bigger dock. There is a small dock by the boathouse, but its of no relation to the other two docks, so that furthers the assumption that body of water is not connected to the sea in the same manner. What i want to know, is why in 2007 is the dock completely fine...but Locke clearly blew a good portion of it up in 2004 when he blew up the submarine :P |

Someone should start a thread to compile all of these continuity errors.
Then in the Sayid centric ep, Sayid sees young Ben shot in the heart. However, in the next ep, we see his wound is on the left side.

Antithesys wrote: That may be true, but i still think its more inland than not...thats why they need shuttle rides. And Anti, while i disagree with you that this "dead is dead" episode finally proves the processing buildings arent near the docks...i do now agree with you they arent. Actually, it was "proven" in season 3's "The Man Behind the Curtain" episode! You see Ben and his father get off the submarine onto that dock..and met by Horace. Its a rather long scene and in reverse shots in the day you can clearly see there are no buildings around, just a meeting awning and a road. And you can see all the Dharma vans lined up waiting to shuttle them all to what most likely the "Otherville" area which contains both the houses and the processing center area.

And id be even willing to believe that the mountain ridge shown in the dock scene, is part of the mountain ridge that makes the crater from where the barracks
sit....

I think the questions about the distances between the dock, processing center, and barracks are simply continuity errors.
I didn't rewatch the episode, so I'm just going on memory, but wasn't it implied in "The Man from Tallahassee" when Lock leaves Ben's house to blow up the sub, he travels a fairly short distance? And the dock in that episode looks a lot like the above pictures to me (they both have the covered bench at the start of the dock). |

Maybe there's a marina. If so, would it still be considered ocean?

It seems like they're making a lot of continuity errors this season. Like too many. And noticeably so.
Either they need to fire their continuity expert or there's a reason for it (preferably an in-show ends-up-being-explained sort of reason instead of writer laziness). |

I think the whole "where's the dock?" thing started when we were trying to decide if the future had been changed. Because if the dock was near
the processing station and away from the village, that would explain why it was in such a dismal shape. Whereas, if the processing station was with the
barracks, why wasn't it taken care of by the "others" etc.
But, I too am wondering why so many errors. Watch, the last episode will be right after the first plane crash and they are all making up camp fire stories in the round. Sayid, "then I shot little Ben in the heart" Shanon, "well, not in the heart but in the right side and then Jin comes to and tries to save him" Kate, " then Jack won't help, so I have to donate my blood to try to save him" Jack, "hey, that's not nice, I would help, that's it, I'm out, you can finish this story on your own. I don't like the way it is making me look." Sawyer, "come on doc, it's just something to kill the time until we're rescued. We're just having fun. They made me into a con man." |

Is there a list of all of the arguments for and against the welcoming station being right next to the barracks?
(other than scattered throughout this thread)

Several people raised the question of "How did John knew where to find Smokey?"
And I think the answer is way back in the first season. I think I remember Locke being pulled by Smokey and saved by Jack and Kate. This was the episode where they took dynamite from the Black Rock and Arzt exploded to pieces. |
