IMO, SYTYCD auditions are pretty palatable compared to other shows because the ratio of good to sucky dancers is skewed pretty heavily to good (Sex aside of course). I also don't think the pre-performance Tony hate is justified (not a reply to seaguy, to what others said in earlier posts). I think there is certainly room on the show for people who are more raw/untrained. He may end up being a joy to watch, whereas someone who is technically superior is cold and univiting (like the ringer from Debbie's dance studio last season--hated him with a passion).

Alex was probably the best dancer there this season. He didn't steal anyone's spot. For the Brandon comparisons, I find Brandon's body completely off-putting. He is in no way graceful with all that bulk. Asuka to me comes across as cold and lacking personality. Paris is <3 though.

Alex is a beautiful dancer, but a contract is a contract. He had one, and didn't bother to see if he would be able to do the show. Oh well. It would have been nice to see him on the show, but it's no one's fault but his own. Maybe when his contract is up he'll try again, I'm sure he'd have no problem making the show again. I cna't really bring myself to feel sorry for him. It's not like he can't do the show because he's stuck being the head fry cook at McDonalds or something.

Alex is smoother, but I don't dislike Brandon since Alex is so technically superior. There's room for both styles. Yeah, we don't know all the details of Alex's situation with the MCB and he obviously was upfront about it with the TPTB at SYTYCD. Summer seasons are different than the rest of the year, maybe he hoped they'd let him go since it's their least busy time of the year.

There's always a chance they won't deliver come TOP 20 time. (see: Comfort Fedoke, Best Hip Hop dancer evah!!!) I have my favs, but I plan on holding judgment until I see a full 2-3min routine.

Nigel was pretty gracious about it [perhaps because he knew about it all along and encouraged it], but it could have gone the other way. I know that if I went through a whole audition/interview process, spent the money to fly somebody out to another city and put them up in a hotel for several days, and ultimately fell in love with them, only to discover they had never been available, I'd be pissed off... As for taking somebody's spot, it depends if there is a fixed number they were allowed to take to Vegas. The number was something like 190, right? Did they pass on somebody from the auditions who may have made it to Vegas had a spot not been taken by the ineligible Alex or did they bring everybody they felt warranted it, regardless of what that total number was? Yes, top 20 is the ultimate goal, but the opportunity to do the Vegas callbacks and work with those choreographers is a [lesser] prize that many who auditioned would kill for... But most of them are fodder. So I really doubt Alex took someone's spot who truly deserved it. Without Alex, another contemporary dancer was just alright would've been in that spot.

It's one of the unspoken rules of the business that the best way to get a job is to already have a job. Performers get leaves of absence to do workshops of other shows for weeks or months at a time, too. Alex probably thought he would be able to work this out if it came to that point -- I seriously doubt he went into this thinking, gee, let's see how I can screw over my dance company!

I love Evan, and I remember loving him last year and was sad he didn't make it. And I think Jason is hot. He's probably fodder. <3
