Talia is one of those rare dancers that just 'gets' it, even if she isn't 100% perfect, she 'gets' it.

I wonder how Jonathan is doing. I hope he is holding up well.

SYTYCD AUS is hands down 1000000x better. I wouldn't go that far, but I really like the objectivity of the judging and especially the lack of overpraisal/TCO's. Talia was never really a frontrunner until the top 10/8 shows and when she was shit (which she totally was in top 20/18 shows), the judges tore her to pieces. Also, one of my favourite contemporary routines from that season:

^It sounds awesome, at least if they manage to create good routines to go with the songs. |

I have a feeling Mia will choose either Man in the Mirror or Earth Song. I really hope they make this happen, it would be even cooler if they use dancers from
previous seasons as well.

Still glad that Jonathan finally got the boot. He should have known better than throwing in those obvious tricks in the place of lackluster dancing in his own style. It worked for Neil every time he had to do a solo. |

I wonder, do you think they will use child dancers in the MJ Tribute?

I reject the idea that you are as smart as you think you are. I was simply stating that Neil did it every time he had to do a solo, and he had a rather large
following on here IIRC. You can consider it dance all you want, and other people can consider it "not dance" all they want.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm disagreeing with the judges. Neil lasted because he generally danced WELL, both in his solos (which included
gymnastics) and in his pairs dances. Jonathan was cut because he sucked ass in his pairs dances and his solos including gymnastics weren't all that great.
The one who got fucked was Marquise, who did a phenomenal solo last year, but they dismissed it as being all tricks and cut him for it...

I think tricks for the sake of dojng tricks is not dance. And I actually did NOT think Neil danced very well, until almost the end (somehow he seemed to have
learned). TOTALLY agree that his tricks just got old. And I actually agree with the judges on Marquise. There was very little dance to that, either, imo.

I don't even remember Marquise, lol. Who did he start out with?

I think he was paired with Suzie and got cut in week two.

The problem with Neil was that all his solos were virtually the same. And what I had an issue with his gymnastics was that it never seem to gel with the
music.
I know some of you guys are really harsh on Karla, but I find her solo last week to be incredibly interesting. Although she wasn't completely successful, she was dancing to the music. People don't realize is that, the radiohead song is really hard rhythmically. Its not a standard 3/4 or 4/4 time frame. It is a 5/4 time signature song which is an incredibly awkward time frame to dance too. So I really give her props be dancing to that song. |

seltzer3 wrote: Danny's solos were virtually the same, too, as far as I recall, and his endless pirouettes are "tricks" as much as the gymnasts' somersaults are. Yeah, pirouettes are part of the vocabulary of dance over hundreds of years, but that vocabulary changes. Thirty or forty years ago, a lot of the moves that we see in hip hop (locking, breaking, etc.) wouldn't have been considered dance and now they are. Perhaps the acrobats are just on the forefront of what will in the near future be considered an integral part of the dance world... As for gelling with the music, that is a much more legitimate point. HOW he executed the "tricks" is a valid complaint. That he used them at all is not one (IMO, of course). Here is Marquis' solo (sorry. There's no "e" at the end as I spelled it before). The judges claimed this was too much tricks and not enough dance. I say they're full of shit. |

Okay, now I remember him! I agree that that one wasn't too "tricky", and certainly not moreso than other we've seen.
