For me, Oscar/Vitolio's waltz was the best of the night. It was pretty graceful and flowy and fantastic. Better than a lot of the contemporary numbers on
the show that were supposed to have the same effect actually.

EVAN & RANDI - I actually love Evan's style and the way he makes everything look so easy. I do not have
the knowledge and expertise of Mary and Nigel when it comes to ballroom, and they are probably right that it wasn't perfect Jive technique, but it was
still enjoyable to watch. I also like the natural way he takes on the characters when he dances. Randi seemed to dance fine, but I'm not crazy about her
body type (too short and too stocky), so I don't love to watch her dance.
ADE & MELISSA - I think Melissa is absolutely adorable. Ade, on the other hand, just irks me. I don't know that I'll ever be able to get past the stupid lucky pick. The dance had a lot of really good moments, and I think they nailed about 75% of it, but there was a lot about it that looked sloppy. I loved the choreography, but the execution was just good - not great. JASON & CAITLIN - I think Jason is also adorable and really, really charismatic, so I was very surprised to find myself watching Caitlin through most of the number. It wasn't a good thing for her, though. I know she was styled to look like a music video "ho", but with the essence that she brought to it, the outfit called to mind 'Lil Abner' more than 'Lil Wayne. She just comes across as a terminally white hick. The two of them DON'T have chemistry and they don't dance in sync (I called that last week), so the story that Shane was going for never really came across. BRANDON & JANETTE - These two have gone from Foxtrot to Disco - two of the least popular, most dangerous styles this show has. They came out of both not only unscathed but impressive. Brandon in particular was a beast, here, but Janette really kept up (I didn't see her flub up until they replayed it). It wasn't my favorite choreography especially the parts between the tricks, but the execution was excellent. My biggest problem with this pair is Janette's hairstyle. What possessed her to choose that dreadful look, and is there anything that can be done with it at this point? VITOLIO & ASUKA - I actually felt much more emotion watching the rehearsal footage than the actual performance. I think Vitolio did connect to something deeper out there, but Asuka was like a cold breeze blowing out the flame. On the other hand, she outdid him on the technique by a long shot. He was tentative and wobbly a lot, and the lifts and especially the transitions in and out of them were not as smooth as they should have been. MAX & KAYLA - This so far is my favorite number we've seen all season. I loved the outfits. I loved the music. I loved the choreography (and Freedman looks SOOO much better without hair), but mostly I loved the dancing. Max really took the lead this week, and didn't come off cheesy as ballroom guys are wont to do. At first, I didn't appreciate what Kayla was doing (inasmuch as Max was driving the scene and Kayla was reacting), but then I realized that what I took as him making her move in certain ways was really HER moving in those ways and making it look like he was making her do it. Amazing. JONATHAN & KARLA - I first want to address Mary's comment that she has never before told a dancer that they danced another style better than their own. If this is true, then she is an idiot. Sara in season 3 danced EVERY style better than her own! I have to say, I'm totally out of step with the judges on this one. I didn't like it at all. Jonathan at least showed potential. The quality of his movement was totally different from last week. He had such a flexible flow that was in complete opposition to his stiffness last week. My problem with him was that he seemed to be thinking about the choreography too much. With a couple more days of rehearsal, I think he could have ingrained the steps into his muscles and PERFORMED the dance more. Karla, on the other hand, showed very little potential. She simply doesn't seem to have much talent. The few seconds they showed from her solo last week were downright embarrassing, and tonight wasn't much better. And whereas last week she showed personality with her performance, this week, she was totally blank. PHILLIP & JEANINE - Mary was right that Philip deserves a C- for technique, but I think he deserves an F for performance. Nothing about that showed the fiery passion and masculinity the tango demands. Jeanine was much better performance-wise, and was at least sexy and believable in the world of tango. In reality, although her technique was probably merely adequate, she elevated it with character. KUPONO & ASHLEY - I feel like I owe Ashley an apology. Last week, I got very little from her in terms of personality and I wrote her off as a dud. This week, she really nailed the attitude and the style, and danced it very well, too. Yes, the synchronization between the partners wasn't there, but because of HER performance, it was mostly enjoyable to watch, although not as good as the choreography deserved. My Rankings: 1. KAYLA & MAX 2. MELISSA & ADE 3. JANETTE & BRANDON 4. RANDI & EVAN 5. ASUKA & VITOLIO 6. ASHLEY & KUPONO 7. CAITLIN & JASON 8. KARLA & JONATHAN 9. JEANINE & PHILIP 10,000,000. LIL C'S JUDGING - damn, he sucks! Please don't have him back! |

OK, I didn't see everyone's, but I will comment anyway:
Evan and Randi - I actually thought Randi came off stronger than Evan in this one, and this was more in line with HIS speciality. I noticed that he had moments where he appeared sloppy, but towards the middle of the routine, he got sharper. Randi, on the other hand, started off strong and looked like she got tired towards the end. I thought it was just good. Good enough to pass them to Top 16. Ade and Melissa - I actually didn't like it. Sonya's choreo was fine. It was everything else that was wrong. First of all, WHAT THE HELL WAS WITH ADE'S LOOK?!? Note to wardrobe: when clothing a dark-skinned black man, if you are going to give him black pleather pants to wear, make sure he actually WEARS a bright and colorful shirt/vest to go with it! I just think he looked absolutely weird out there in those ridiculous pants and nothing else. Not only that, but he still comes off rather wobbly in dancing still. He's good with partnering and lifting, but on his own, he's just competent. Melissa was alright, but she should have danced a little harder. Her look just didn't gel with the way he looked. AT ALL. I guess they deserve a pass to Top 16. Jason and Caitlin - Yeesh. I thought it was pretty bad. Jason was competent in the hip hop, but Caitlin? LAAAAAAAZZZYYYYYYYY!! Is it just me or is that girl just geriatric in her movements?!? I mean, DAMN! Even her stand-still movements were half-assed! TERRIBLE! Bottom 3. Brandon and Janette - They were pretty good especially following the four mediocre to bad routines that preceeded them. Brandon was a bit all over the place upper-body wise, but his lower body needs to take wider strides in his dancing. Janette was AWESOME! You know, I didn't even notice or CARE that she stumbled, her tricks MORE than made up for it! And her spread eagle taking flight?!? NIIIIIIIIIICE. Top 16 for SURE. Oscar and VITILIGO - I thought that it was a nice waltz. I didn't like Vitiligo's frame at all....I felt that he couldn't help popping his butt OUT in his movements, which was distracting. I've come to the conclusion that he and Ade have weird builds. They have the type of bodies where their lower frames are bigger than their torsos. It's unnerving to watch a guy with a huge trunk move with such a slightly inferior torso. Asuka was LOVELY. I loved the fact that through all the tricks, she maintained the emotion and the feeling of the dance, and it was GENUINE. Top 16 for SURE. Maksim and Kayla - I'm gonna say it.....MAKSIM LOOKS RATHER FEMININE IN HIS DANCING! Sorry to sound like Nigel, but his super broken wrist-flicking BUGS THE SHIT OUT OF ME! Kayla, on the other hand, was just ON FIRE! That girl was just ON POINT the entire dance. Loved her look and the fact that she committed her personality to the moves and hit the moves hard. Maksim kept up but noticeably went back into his ballroom mode with his dancing. Those DAMN wrists.....Top 16 Sewed up. Jonathan and Karla - Didn't see it. Didn't care. He can go NOW. Karla.....eh. I could care less either way. Put them in the Bottom 3. Phillip and Jeanine - I only caught the judges replay of this. From what I saw, Phillip looked like a frittering cockroach across the floor. Who ISOLATES in a ballroom routine?!? He just can't help himself. Jeanine wasn't too noticeable, so I can't comment on her too much, but from what I saw, she looked decent I think. Barely Safe. Kupono and Ashley - I only caught the end, so I don't know WHAT was going on. I can't even comment on the dancing itself, but I will stick with what the judges say in saying it was quite bad. Bottom 3. |

![]() After rehearsing for her dance number on the show So You Think You Can Dance, Katie Holmes flashes a big smile as she leaves CBS Studios in Los Angeles on Wednesday (June 17) with her choreographer Tyce Diorio and daughter Suri. It was announced yesterday that Katie will be doing her own rendition of Judy Garland's "Get Happy," from her 1950 musical, Summer Stock. A source has said, "She has talked about doing musical theater for some time now. And even though it feels strange that she'd do So You Think You Can Dance, it could be good for the next phase of her career." |

Kayla's hair color always makes me not take her seriously, and then she starts to dance. She is an incredible dancer and performer.
Lil C reminds me of the Oswald Bates character from In Living Color--the convict who is educating himself and strings together and misuses all of the big, often anatomical, words? |

Pretty underwhelming compared to last week.
This was clearly not one of Shane's better nights. Both hip hop routines were lackluster and the dancers weren't that much better. The fact that a disco routine, check that, a DORIANA SANCHEZ disco routine was one of the highlights of the evening says a lot about most of the other performances. Forget about Randi and Evan, Brandon and Janette had the most fun routine last night. I have to say that I like the Louis Van Amstel addition so far. All of his dances have been solid, with maybe a slight exception of the jive. As predicted, Phillip was a hot mess in the tango. Also predictable: the judges went easy on him. Jeanine, on the other hand, was pretty solid. I also loved Lil C getting called out on his lack of tango technique knowledge. As the old proverb says, it's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of as a fool than it is to open your moth and remove all doubt. Sadly, like most of the other judges, Lil C is becoming a caricature of himself. Outside of that, I also liked how Mary and Nigel looked away with amused looks on their face when he went on one of his vocabulary tangents. What I think the bottom three will be: Caitlin/Jason Ashley/Kapono Either Karla/Jonathan or Melissa/Ade |

I think the Lil' C commentary on the tango is important. A lot of people watching this show may not know the proper techniques outside of what they see on
other dancing shows. While I'm sure it doesn't matter in the case of Philip (he's getting votes regardless of how he dances), it's good that
C's mistake was brought up. A lot of people may have though that because Philip's legs were bent, he was performing the dance incorrectly.

What I like about Max is that he's the only male old-school, gold lame, jazz fingers, male gymnast-like dancer in the competition. And he's dong a
heckuva job of it too. He's going to be hilarious when he has to do hip hop.

I just realized that I may have been mistaking Shane Sparks for that douchey white guy who does the hip hop routines (yeah, I know)... so I might have been a
little over-zealous in my declaration of suckage. However, it's safe to say that a good number of the hip-hop routines on this show suck ass.

Do you mean Dan Karaty? Who has been thankfully absent? Or are we talking Brian Freedman, ex-dancing star of "Kids, Incorporated." I think the judges are gonna send home a shocker tonight...Isn't this when they usually do it...or is it week 3? |

Is it me or are people being too hard on Philip for his tango? The guy is a popper! Probably the least trained person on the show, he did an admirable job of
the tango.
I think that it would have been done better by another contemporary dancer, but then who would care? I want to see Philip take on these huge challenges, and ya he will be rough, but given some time, he has the musicality in him, he could show some huge improvements. I guess I am just saying, we can't hold him to the same standard as other trained dancers and if we did then we should have only contemporary dancers on the show as they are the only ones able to fulfill the needs of all the different styles of dancing. My rankings from last night: (best dancer of pair listed first) 1. Janette and Brandon- that is what disco was meant to be, and it was fun as hell to watch. 2. KAYLA (and partner)- I said Janette was the strongest female, I take it back, Kayla is F4 bound for sure. Max should not be in top 10 and afraid he will make it due to Kayla's supremeness 3. Asuka and Vitolio- Asuka had 'the frame' and her elegance pulled this off The rest were mostly a big MEH: 4. Ade and Mel- enjoyed this more the second time while watching Ade 5. Randi and Evan- this was not a good jive by any stretch, but Randi hit the moves far far better than Evan 6. Jeanine and Phil- yes, this high, Jeanine did the best job she could and Philip was great for a popper 7. Jason and Cailin- Jason hit some moves really hard and as it should be 8. Karla and Jonathan- great choreography, dumbed down by Jonathan 9. Ashley and Kupono- after this I believe these 2 will be gone long before top 10. Not good at all bottom 3 as I think America will call it: Asuka and Vitolio- judging by the applause, they aren't capturing the popular vote Ashley and Kupono Karla and Jonathan I hope this gets down to the dance for your life and they really do scrap it out for the spot I wonder how Brandon and Mia got along for the group number choreography. BITCHFACE, nice to see Brandon is proving your coked up ass wrong about his lack of personality! But the bitch can choreograph on occasion. also, I wonder how Jean Marc and Blake Lewis felt about Nigel proclaiming that Stacey Tookey was the best Canadian choreographer. |

also, I wonder how Jean Marc and Blake Lewis felt about Nigel proclaiming that Stacey Tookey was the best Canadian choreographer.Don't forget Melissa Williams. She may have had a few bad routines (go-go), but she did a lot of great stuff on the show. Jean Marc only did group rotounies (although I thought his waltz one with the frame was terrific), and Blake... I'm sure Blake doesn't care. Is it me or are people being too hard on Philip for his tango? The guy is a popper! Probably the least trained person on the show, he did an admirable job of the tango.
Or it could be Asuka/Vitolio in the B3. Hopefully not; they deserve to be there longer. It was a lovely waltz. But so many people loved Jonathan/Karla's routine, which takes some thunder away from how much A/V redeamed themselves, that they may be in the B3. Hopefully not, though. |

I think the judges like Jason and Caitlin (Caitlin specifically) a lot and would be inclined to keep them or at least her in.
It does depend on who else is in the bottom 3 though. If Karla and Johnathan were there again for example in general they might be considered expendable but after the judges raved on and on about their contemporary last night it may be hard for them to justify sending them home. So perhaps you're right, Jason and Caitlin might take the fall tonight depending on how the vote goes. |

Sara in season 3 danced EVERY style better than her own! Well, considering she was trained in some other style and the whole b-girl thing was more of a hobby/casting schtick, she doesn't really count. |
