I feel that a lot of singers in the first two seasons are rather underappreciated. Its definitely a lot more difficult to have good dynamics and bring out energy which just piano. I feel that a lot of the contestants the past 2-3 seasons, were able to use the live band and backup vocals as a really good crutch. If they had it with just piano accompanyment, I have a feeling that most of them wouldn't make it, because their weaknesses would be exposed.

The show has evolved and it's regressive to go back to the piano. the show itself has evolved but the talent is in fact devolving and the more assistance these contestants get to mask their true vocal ability the worse that talent will get. yes, in the studio every artist has their vocals tweaked, that is expected but these contestants should, by all accounts, be able to sing (and sing impressively) without any musical accompaniment and certainly without backing vocals to "fill out" their voices.

Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I don't give a shit whether they play piano, guitar, bass saxophone, or are forbidden to play instruments and are simply required to try and sing well. My main concern is scrapping the moronic one-week and you're done semis format and going back to the three elimination rounds. That would have spared us from most of the judge's painfully bad wildcard picks and some of the other pathetic finalists we are stuck with.
