My "you suck"' was for the idiot who posted the fucking cut and pasted list. I can fucking google. I wanted to know movies that people here have
seen and liked.
Any must sees for real life should be mentioned as well. I just booked an inpulse trip. |

All the King's Men?
The original, I mean. We can all agree the Sean Penn remake never happened. It was worse than Costner's New Orleans "accent" in JFK. |

I haven't been there since katrina but taking a swamp tour is well worth it. Really beautiful. Have bignets and chickory coffee in the morning in jackson
square. Avoid bourbon street in the AM unless you love the smell of vomit. It's worth a quick walk at night to see all the drunken idiots falling on
themselves, though. Plus you definitely want to wander into some of the jazz clubs there. Stay in a hotel closer to the square than to bourbon or else you
won't get any sleep. The garden district has some gorgeous architecture. Oh, and Commanders Palace is way overrated.

my enduring memory of the place is the large numbers of beggars.

Jezebel (1938) - Bette Davis doing her bug-eyed version of the spoiled southern belle and Henry Fonda being quietly intense. Much fun!

not really in the spring time. I know it sounds disgusting but it's really, really pretty. It's the most unique landscape I've ever seen.

Cat People - Nastassja Kinski & Malcolm McDowell....a movie that still holds up despite being filmed over 25 years ago.

well, if this going to turn into a guide of what to see in NO...one of my absolutely favorite places...I've not been back since the year before Katrina...
Have a Pimm's Cup at Napoleons in the Quarter...Love that dirty, old place...only restaurant I've eaten where mice would skitter across your feet. But you can't beat the place for an icy Pimm's on a hot August day. The street show at Jackson Square...get your fortune told, your portrait drawn and your purse stolen...all at the same place... Ride a streetcar...the one on St. Charles is a great way to see the old houses...start from the river and go all the way to the zoo...the one along the river is ok, too... ROCK AND BOWL! only place on the planet where you can bowl a few frames then put on your dancing shoes and get down to some of the best zydeco in the world. (this is out of the general area of the French Quarter, but any taxi driver can take you there...and MOST of the taxi drivers in New Orleans are wonderful tour guides...) Do a cemetery tour...Don't do any of the outlying cemeteries (and I would even recommend not doing any) without a tour guide. They are dangerous, scary places even in broad daylight. St. Louis 1 is the best. Marie Leveaux's tomb is there. Put an x on it and ask for a favor. Leave her a gift (cigars are preferred) if you really want her help. There is a sanctuary across the street in the church where you can light a candle for a small donation. The room is wonderful and is filled with tiny relics and notes beseeching saints for intercessions. Lafeyette is in the Garden District...which is worth a few hours of your time... Someone told me Uglesich's was closed, but their website says otherwise...http://www.uglesichs.com/page_001.html GO THERE AND EAT. There is nothing bad on the menu. Nothing. |
