So I think it's still safe to assume that the pregnancy problem was not yet a problem in 1977. Also, people keep saying women on the island die during childbirth, but I thought Juliet has said that they die during their second trimester. Her reaction when Amy was giving birth kind of surprised me for that very reason -- she should have known that Amy hadn't been affected by the same pregnancy problems as the island women she had treated in the 2000s just by virtue of the fact that she was still alive to even get close to giving birth.

My point was that it is not a matter of when you are when you give birth, it is a matter of when you are when you conceive.

Its no coincidence that in the same episode that Amy got pregnant, and the same episode we saw the full statue, that we also see Amy steal the Ankh off her dead husbands corpse...the same symbol of fertility the statue is holding.

I THINK it was gone in 1974... I think it showed the full statue after the 2nd to last flash...they mentioned the statue and all looked at it...there was another flash...they looked over there again, and the statue was gone.

So Sun may well have been doomed even if she ended up in a time before whatever force is causing pregnant women to die was in effect. I never noticed that the Statue was holding anything - looks like a visit to Lostpedia is in order.

It pretty much would completely explain the fertility issues with women on the island. Well, except of course why the statue is needed in the first place. But I guess that probably has something to do with the bomb. I just hadn't heard it yet. Also, this has probably already been mentioned here, but someone posted a discussion of it on LJ and it kind of blew my mind a little bit. "He's Our You": "Whatever Happened Happened": Notice anything odd about the gunshot wounds?

The costume person would have to have really messed up and the actor playing little Ben would also have to have not said anything like, "wasn't the hole on the other side of the jacket?"
