If this is true, it's possible that Sun wasn't transported to 1977 because she was never there to begin with. If the O6 never left the island, we can assume that they would have time traveled to 1974 with Sawyer, Juliet etc. A few months after this, Sun would have died due to the "all pregnant women on the island die" thing, meaning she would not have been alive 3 years later while the rest of the O6 were. It's likely that fate stepped in, leaving her on that plane to ensure that things remained as they always were.
A good theory indeed. The problem I am having lately with the "They weren't supposed to leave" talk is "Whatever happened, happened". So if it is true that whatever happened, happened, then they indeed were supposed to leave because that is what happened. The fly in this ointment of course is that Desmond was involved as you said, and he supposedly can change things, so....it'll be interesting to hear an explanation of this stuff if we ever get it.
