11. Legolas
Unlike a lot of people in this thread, I have nothing against Legolas. In fact, I never even knew he was hated before this. I only ranked him this low because he's not very colorful and somewhat boring. Don't get me wrong, a lot of his interactions with Gimli are just hilarious, and they do bring some comic relief to the movies. But apart from just being "there", he doesn't really do much for me. As an audience, it feels as if the people who made the movie didn't really care about him. We never got emotionally invested in him or anything. And something about him just seems weird when he's fighting. But he's still a good character. Bonus points for the Youtube video at the bottom of this post! 10. Denethor
As LOL worthy as Denethor is, he's still a complete twat. I like him in the way I like Coach - he's very colorful and he's just so over the top bizarre it is hard not to like him. I just have to laugh he takes himself so seriously. One of my favo scenes ever is when he is chewing and blood starts to run down his mouth. How do you chew so hard your mouth starts to bleed? LOL. It's silly. He's such a grump, I love him. On the negative side, he is a complete asshole and is ignorant to all the warning signs going off around him. He is so over-wraught (sp?) with guilt that he sends his own son Faramir off to certain death. And then tries to kill him when he returns from battle still alive! I know he's a tool, but he still amuses me. And I don't know why! |

I read the books before the movies came out, and...I maybe wouldn't go so far as to say I dislike the books, but...I didn't care for them. Tolkien
is too dry for my tastes. And I loved how they made Arwen such a big character in the movies. Like 78 different elves do in the books what she did in the
movies. So many random identical characters h8

#9. Frodo Baggins
LOL. I went to go search for a picture of Frodo to upload to my Photobucket account, and the link I clicked on redirected me to a penis pump website. Aaaaaaaanyway.... Yeah, I know Frodo is the main character and all. I really should like him, but he just irritates me some times. I mean, he's a nice guy at heart. He has good intentions. When the series kicked off, he was living peacefully and happily in the Shire with all his good friends. However, when the Ring was forced upon him, he handled it well only for a little while. Eventually, the power of the Ring started to get to him and it turned him into a major dickface. He continually would put his trust into Gollum and he made horrible, weak decisions one after another. Everything turned out all right in the end, but I just wanted to kick him in the face at several points in the movies. If it weren't for Gollum jumping on him and biting his finger off at the end of the last film, Frodo would have brought doom to all of Middle Earth. So really, he's not that strong minded or heroic. But the power of the Ring is strong, and he did have good intentions. So it's all good. |

Frodo was my least favorite of the 4 main hobbits. For somebody who saved the world, he wasn't that entertaining. Though counting the number of times he
fell down was fun, I guess.

#8. Grima Wormtongue
Slimy assholes FTW! I don't know if it's the silly "VFTW" part of me or what, but I always had a soft spot for this character. Yeah, he's a complete follower sleeze with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, but hey - he's funny. I like it when he got tossed down the stairs after Theoden was freed from the command of Saruman. It was LOL worthy. I don't like how his character completely vanished after he got tossed out of Rohan, but there are deleted scenes out there where it shows what happened to him. He ended up going to Isengaard and stabbing Saruman in the back. Literally. Another reason I like him is because he was played by that Suder guy from Star Trek Voyager. You know, the sociopathic dude who became a serial killer aboard the ship? Yeah that's him. #7. Saruman
Christopher Lee is a badass and I have always been a fan of him ever since I noticed him in Gremlins 2: The New Batch. The only thing I don't like about him is how similar his name is to Sauron. Sauron.... Saruman.... couldn't they have come up with more original names for the villains of this series? Basically, Saruman was a good friend of Gandalf the Grey until he fell under the spell of Sauron. When Gandalf came to receive his council and advice, he was stabbed in the back by someone he thought was a good friend. Saruman built up an army of orcs and other freakish creatures, but saw his power quickly come to an end when Isengaard was flooded by the Ents. He disappeared and did not appear in the third movie, which was a dissappointment because he had been such a central figure up until then. At least we get to see what happened to him through the deleted scenes. #6. Gimli
Gimli was another one of those "comic relief" characters, but I liked him a lot. He started out as just another dwarf who hated the elves. But as the films progressed, he befriended Legolas and showed a very human side (even though he was a dwarf). He had a lot of great and underrated moments in the movies. Pretty much every time it showed him, you just knew he was going to do or say something that would make you laugh. |

it is a mystery wrote: Brad Dourif. Just a terrific, terrific actor. Also appeared in one of the Alien movies, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, The X-Files, Millenium and is the voice for Chucky. Perfect actor for this role. The Saruman name thing always bugged me too. Both villains, both have nearly the identical name, why make it so difficult? FYI, he had a whole nother
sequence in the book where he takes over the Shire, but twas all cut out in the movie version. |

Once you finish this list you need to finally read the books and then make another list comparing the book characters to their movie counterparts.

Ok, I watched about 35 minutes and then I was like "hmmmm I wonder what's going on online?"
</3 short attention spans. Anyway.... #5: Samwise Gamgee
It has been previously mentioned in this thread that Sam was obnoxious and should not rank highly in this thread. Yeah, he was whiny towards Frodo, but he deserved it. It's heard not to appear whiny to someone when you are arguing with them and you just KNOW you're right but they won't listen. Sam is the true hero of this movie. Without him, Frodo never would have even made it to Mt Doom. He is the eptiome of everything right with these movies. He's strong, he's heroic, he's brave, he's smart, and he's sensible. He puts all personal concerns aside and risks his life to save the day soo many times. He was in close proximity to the Ring the whole time, and even takes the Ring for safe keeping and the power of it does not effect him. He should have just held on to it the whole time, lol. One of my favorite Sam moments is when it zooms in on his mouth and he says "Share the load." It's kinda hawt. OK not really. #4: Arwen
Suck it haters! I have made it clear that I have not read the books, only seen the movies. I don't care if she was minor in the books, she kicked major ass in the films. First off, she's beautiful. It's not even that... there is just this weird kind of mystical sense of awe whenever she is on the screen. You just immediately know that there is something special about her. She has great onscreen chemistry with Aragorn and you can easily see why he loves her so much. As a character, she is very selfless and gives up her own immortality in order to help Aragorn and save humanity. The scene where she is riding off and has a vision of her unborn son is one of my favorite scenes in the whole trilogy. She kicks ass too. I don't recall if she ever picks up a sword and fights.... but the part where she rides on her horse along carrying a sick Frodo while the Nazguls are chasing her is epic. And then she summons that spell to make the water wash them away <333 I'm not a Liv Tyler fan, but she is pretty darn good in this movie. I felt so happy at the end when she wound up marrying Aragorn (although I did see it coming from a mile away). Arwen love <3! |

Saruman is awesome. Gimli provides some much needed comic relief (its a movie about dwarves, elves and talking trees, you don't want it to be TOO
serious). After the initial surprise waned over Arwen's massively bloated importance in the movie, I was actually able to enjoy her, and she provides some
much needed eye candy.
