I don't pay attention either but I think they are teaming them up because Kris, as talented and loveable as he is, isn't very charismatic. Adam on the other hand is a magnet for the spotlight. They work well together and I think Adam brings out a more playful and fun side to Kris which makes him better in the interviews. Yes, Adam is definitely the more media-savvy of the two. And I'm sure he doesn't mind helping out his friend. Kris is not Mr. Personality, but his simple everyman qualities are a big part of his appeal.
