Safina actually hasn't choked much away recently. Since last year's clay season (where she beat Justine and Serena back-to-back), she really has done
well at not giving matches away. She pulled off some miraculous wins at last year's French and has looked fantastic so far here (not that she's had the
toughest opponents, but her game is looking damn good).
I saw the score of Maria's match before I saw the actual match on TV, and I expected it to be an errorfest, but both had good winner to unforced error ratios. It was probably the best match (in terms of quality) on the women's side so far. Maria could go very far, especially if Venus goes out to Safarova (or before they were to meet). Na Li can definitely beat Maria, but it's not a match Maria can't win. As of right now, I don't see anyone beating Dinara in the top half. I'm looking forward to Dokic/Dementieva tomorrow. |
