The government is throwing away money, but they're at least pretending to be helping. AIG isn't even doing that. They're taking the money
and laughing in our faces, while Congress is taking the money and laughing quietly to themselves in their rooms.
That's pretty much the entire difference. |

AIG is using the money to pay its people and run its business. Isn't that what companies are supposed to do with their money?

Anyone watching this AIG shitfest? Yes, I'm following it in the news. Now we know what AIG stands for, like some Senator said. AIG = Arrogance, Incompetence, and Greed. And when confronted by investigation, all AIG executives say, after stealing millions of our tax dollars to balm and reward their select few, is this ~

like some Senator said. Well if that ain't the biggest pot/kettle moment ever. |

Wait...isn't this bailout money suppossed to be paid back? If so, then they can waste their money on bonuses. It's their loss.
Or am I being naive and the money will never get paid back? |

Nat57 wrote:In this case, AIG will pay it back only if AIG makes a profit. Treasury lent AIG $85 billion through TARP. AIG lost $62 billion last quarter. The FP division, the 370-employee division that blew up approximately $60 billion in CDS, is the division that got the $165 million bonus that everyone is complaining about. We are never going to get paid back, unless they somehow make $85 billion.

all I know is that some politician guys used the word "tit" whilst discussing whatever this is about.
It was on the news on the teevee. |

The libs won't be able to get back the bonuses so they plan to tax it at 90%. Way to go, I never saw such a sorry bunch pounding at the AIG CEO like a
bunch of paid-off evangelicals.
Sent these jerks home and let the eocnmoy sort itself out before they do more damage. |

Wasn't this Bush's idea? To bail these extremely clever extortionistic sociopaths out?
WHERE'S MY RETENTION BONUS, DAMNIT? |

I dont know that I have ever seen a witch hunt quite this big.
This is ridiculous. I feel sorry for the CEO of AIG. He is doing this for free. |

The libs won't be able to get back the bonuses so they plan to tax it at 90%.And this tax will stay in place on all bonuses forever. Libs know what they are doing. Taking the money back in fines or other ways wont help but creating a new tax will last and last. When it comes to tearing down the country liberals rule. |

It's so tough these days living on a 7 figure salary. I mean, damn...Those 3 vacation houses and the condo in Manhattan aren't doing it anymore....and
the Maserati is showing its age.
They were clever enough to dupe several administrations. I think their tax attorneys can figure out something to do instead of bonuses to AWARD such crappy management. Considering that the interest alone on their bonuses could make a nice salary for me, my pity is stopping at the door. I say screw the lot and let them fall into the ocean. I'm liberal, but there's nothing liberal about coddling these jerks. And it's been going on for a LONG DAMN TIME. Not just Obama, not just Bush, not just Clinton... |

The Congressional "outrage" is all for show, signifying nothing as usual. Then these legislators still have their hands out for more pol
contributions and free parties. Then taxpayer trips for them and families around the world. They sure show the way.

the knee-jerk right-wing response that businesses are pure and politicians are evil is precious.
and excusing all of aig bc only one department lost the money is very naive. ken lay didn't know what was going on at enron either, right? as for the "pounding" congress gave the current ceo, i don't know what hearing you saw. this ceo was appointed after the fact. y'day he didn't want to release the names of some employees bc he's afraid someone will follow through on the death threats they're receiving. they'll be subpoenaed and respond, and it was a fair concern to not give out the names on live television. other than that, no one beat up the guy. he's doing this job for $1 a year, no other compensation. he's not the problem. |

I'm very conservative on this issue. Who cares about the bonuses? When the government bought into AIG with bailout money, we signed up for the whole damned
culture. Bonuses are part of salary in this industry and I am not for taking away a person's salary unless there has been clear motive that it was gained
in wrongdoing. Not just morally ambiguous legal work, but actual criminal activity. The executives of AIG are not in the same nefarious league as
Bernie Madoff. On any given day, any of our jobs could be beneficial or detrimental to the world. Are we going to tax the bonuses of CEOs of fast food
restaurants because people got fat?
Yes, it sucks, but the entire financial system is corrupted, which is why it needs to be shaken up, re-organized from the bottom up. |

the bonuses are obviously outrageous, but it can't suck all the focus away from the larger crisis.
