Even Debbie could, we'll have to see.

If it is a F2, with a 7 person Jury, Joe could go on Thursday, then Sydney getting the first merge boot, and she would still go to the loser's lodge.

The only official female merge boots were Gretchen in Borneo and Jaime in China. Michelle from Fiji doesn't really count because of the team twist that occurred. Men of the minority tribe are traditionally targeted first at the merge because of their challenge strength and threat to win multiple Immunities and Joe would be a target along with JT for this reason. With Sydney on the other hand, there's not a lot of sense in her being booted first in the merger, although stranger things have happened I suppose.

If JT wins Immunity at the merge, Stephen and Taj have the Exile Island alliance to fall back on. With Brendan and Sierra pushing for Stephen and Taj to stay, it could easily result in Sydney being the merge boot. Still, we then have to figure out why Joe would be booted instead of Sydney in the next episode. All things considered, I think Sydney going next and Joe being the merge boot just makes more sense. If he is injured that may be an asset when it comes to challenge wins during the merge stage.

Based on that I could definitely see Joe taking a bullet for her. Joe was also among the people that Carolina said she loves in her exit interviews. I still think they're the next two out, Syd and Joe, regardless of the order.
