Ann Margret Thatcher wrote: At the end of the HBO movie a sentence ran across the screen that Little Edie sold the property under the condition that the house not be demolished. I would imagine that wouldn't apply to future sales but kudos still go to Ben and Sally, I suppose. And KUDOS TO LITTLE EDIE! I would loooooove to tour that house. |

ditto factoryhurl. How well named you are.
Carboy, it looks like they rent it out 11 months of the year, I don't know if that includes short term rentals or not. If it did, maybe you could sell an organ or something and stay there for a week? |

It was a good one! I loved that Little Edie was able to find someone like Sally to buy the house.
(It's also one of the few articles I have found that wasn't linked on that fabulous site you posted about pages ago.) I really liked this part: because it lead to this: Little Edie was there to greet me, full of hope and expectations. She was horrified by all the other prospective buyers who wanted to tear down the house and build a new one. She had refused to sell to them. When she saw the look on my face, hers lit up. She began dancing and twirling around the living room, singing, "All it needs is a coat of paint." She didn't have to sell me. I was in love.

Pics of the screening at GG: http://www.patrickmcmullan.com/site/event_detail.aspx?eid=29399
I read this yesterday, but at quick glance I can't find it... that Little Edie told Sally Quinn she ruined Grey Gardens, after she saw the restoration. |

Here it is, with more pics:
And what was 'Little Edie's' reaction to the spiffing up of her former beloved home? "A few years after the renovations were completed, 'Little Edie' stopped by the house for a visit," Quinn recalled. 'You ruined it' was all she could say. But to this day I won't let a cat near this house." LMFAO During the screening, domestic doyenne Stewart seemed unable to mask her horror at the sorry state of the decaying mansion, mumbling under her breath, "What a bad mother she was. She never taught her daughter how to clean!" http://www.hamptons.com/detail.ihtml?id=6982&apid=14204&sid=6&cid=41&hm=1&iv=0&townflag= |

Has anyone watched the HBO movie more than 3 times? That is my current count. I swear it was better the 3rd time than it was the 2nd, which was better than the 1st. I'm just mad about the film. The "tea for two" scene alone...Jessica deserves a 6-foot tall Emmy. |

Thank you Factory for the link. I wonder are both of her brother's still alive......I still can't get past the fact that they let their mother &
sister live like that. And Jackie O. why didn't she do more for them....she spent alot of her summers there when she was growing up.
Seeing the after pictures I can see why Big Edie would never want to leave. |

I watched it twice. I have to make a copy of it for a friend tonight so I will probably watch it while I'm doing that again.
I have to watch Frost/Nixon first though. Guess I won't be going to bed early now. |
