I bet your corn is out of this world, 'hurl!
I am going to wear a sweater tied on my head all day in anticipation.
I found out I can watch it at 5 pm on HBOEast, but it won't be in HD.
My HD broadcast is at 8 pm.
I'll watch both!

I fail to see how this could be in any way engaging. There's a cat lady on every block around here, and I wouldn't watch a movie about them. Just because they were rich doesn't make them interesting. |

"This is the best thing to wear for the day. You understand. Because I don't like women in skirts, and the best thing is to wear pantyhose or some pants under a short skirt, I think. Then you have the pants under the skirt, and then you pull the stockings up over the pants underneath the skirt. And you can always take the skirt off and use it as a cape, so I think this is the best costume for the day. [Laughs.] I have to think these things up, you know? Mother wanted me to come out in a kimono, so we had quite a fight." |

I haven't watched the documentary and I'm not sure I'll watch the movie.
I just can't imagine this story as being anything more than tragic and sad. What am I missing? |

It's fascinating, but if you don't watch you'll never know. Suit yourself. Don't worry, the Beales aren't for everyone. I can't imagine the Edies ever being mainstream. If you haven't already been intrigued, you probably never will be.

I agree! It was wonderful. I was looking forward to seeing the scenes from the documentary recreated but after watching it I find I enjoyed the other scenes
even moreso. There is something unique and remarkable about these women that makes them so interesting. It's hard to describe. I cried at the end, for
Little Edie, just as I did at the musical. I'm glad in this version that Big Edie redeemed herself and realized how she held Edie back, because I always
felt watching the documentary that she guilted Edie into staying with her. But like Little Edie said, she could have always left, but where else could she be?
She loved her mother and sacrificed essentially her whole life to take care of her when no one else would.
What puzzles me still is why Jackie didn't do more to help the ladies. Cleaning up the house to pass inspection would appear to be all she did, but why didn't she hire a staff of one or two to take care of these women who clearly did not know how to maintain a 28-room mansion? I'll never get that. Kudos to Drew!!! And especially to Jessica Lange for showing that she's still a relevant actress and for reminding us why she earned her two Oscars. I loved it. |

jessica lange just nailed big edie and drew was the best i have ever seen her X 5. it was SO well done, threading RL in with the documentary, the props,
scenery and costumes were perfection.
i dont think they wanted any outsiders by the time jackie o. got involved. they were very independent AND dependant upon each other. they were in such a tight mother /daughter dysfunction dynamic. i also teared up at the end. one of my old gaes saw edie at one of her reno sweeney perfomances and he has passed away and so i was thinking of that, too. no, it's not for everyone but if you are into the edies, you will <3 it. it better get some awards! |

Thank you so much for this thread! Oddly enough, I had never heard of these two women before and I never saw the documentary either. I've downloaded it and
will be watching it later on tonite.
The movie was wonderful! I loved every second of it and was fascinated by these two odd women. Jessica was phenominal as always and Drew really surprised me with her portrayal of Little Edie. She was fantastic! |
