Considering the criticism this season's finalists have received in sucks, and how awful groups 1 and 2 were in the semis, I thought they acquitted themselves pretty well tonight. Even the weaker performances (Scott, Danny, Anoop, Jasmine, Matt) weren't TOO bad.

Except for Megan. Horrible song choice. Total trainwreck. A truly stupefying mix of Haley Scarlato, Reese Witherspoon, Carrie Underwood (looks, awkward movements and clumsy stage presence only, NOT vocally), and Sarah Mather. Her vocals were all over the place: "pitchy" is just a starting place with her. The fact that she sounded good in spots just made the totality of it even worse; she simply does not EVER stay in tune for more than a few seconds at a time. And she is the first (and hopefully last) Idol finalist ever to finish a performance by doing a bird call! The fact that the judges didn't really call her out on how hideous she really was (to avoid generating a sympathy vote?) added to the surrealism of the whole thing. And this was her third such disaster in a row.

I truly look forward to her more then deserved elimination tomorrow. She shouldn't have even been picked for the Wildcard, let alone be in the finals. If she does squeak through it will be ONLY because there are so few women (and only 2 white ones) in the finals. For now, we can add this to the relatively small collection of Idol performances that cross the line that separates the routinely terrible (Chris Richardson, for example) from the truly, unforgettably excruciating (John Stephen's Crocodile Rock, Camile Velasco's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Sanjaya's You Really Got Me, etc).
