This episode certainly had a different feel to it for me. The last few episodes have been connecting a lot of dots, or at least attempting to. Now we get this, and I'm perplexed again! I suppose now we know how Faraday is in a hard hat and working in the Orchid when Marvin Candle comes in to investigate the troubles the construction crew is having. Horace Goodspeed died during "The Purge" when Ben unleashed the gas. He was sitting on the same bench that Alpert and Sawyer were sitting on tonight. So we have to assume that they are pre-Purge (or did the time traveling change things, despite what Faraday believes). What happened to Olivia Goodspeed if Horace is now with Amy? Had Horace already brought Roger and Ben to the island and Ben had joined the "Hostiles"? When we see Richard Alpert with Ben as a child, he is unkept, long hair, wearing rags. Tonight, he walked into that camp with slick hair and neatly pressed slacks. A previous poster suggested that perhaps Widmore, when speaking of a war that is coming, is suggesting the Dharma v. Hostiles-PURGE happenings. (Why did they have to give Alpert "Bryan's" body?) Perhaps events can be changed, despite what Faraday currently thinks. Widmore is trying to facilitate the changes through John, and Ben is trying to prevent Widmore from changing anything, and letting his rule and the events under it remain.
