I think Kelly and Tamyra saved season 1 quite frankly. they should've been top 2 IMO....
EJ also had a great voice albeit very cruiseship singer. Ryan Starr could actually sing but her barely there clothing was very distracting....
RJ Helton can sing his ass off although he never really showed that much on the show

Nikki McKibbin? what can anyone say about her that hasn't already been said...
Jim V and AJ? they were put through to spite Simon..... they were one of the first eliminated so it wasn't awful that they made it.
Justin's voice was thin but he had sex appeal and attracted the girls.
now...if Angela Peel had made it it would've, for me, been a toss up as to who I'd have rooted for cuz I really really liked her and think it sucks that she never got another chance to appear on that show.
overall, the difference between this season and seasons past is that these contestants this year seem to be woefully lacking in the likability factor, which accounts for a lot in this competition....perhaps even more than the singing in the early stages.
