I think season 6 had much weaker finalists. A lot of these kids can sing well, but they're just blowing it or some chosen one or another gets more pimping.
It's been really predictable who made it in so far, with the exception of Kris. What's gonna happen when there's 6 men and 3 girls going into the
wildcard round? Are the producers really going to even the genders? Because I don't think there's enough strong female singers this year for that.

Three steps to saving this season:
1) Von, Alex, and Scott do NOT get through next week. 2) Someone random like Ju'Not, Felicia, Taylor, or Kendall blows us away next week. 3) Anoop, Matt G., and maybe Mishavonna make it through the wildcard. (step 3b. Matt G. returns to his Hollywood self.) |

Just because America has shitty taste doesn't mean Season 5 was bad. Chris Daughtry and Elliott Yamin are in the top five greatest contestants this show

Seasons 1, 3 and 6 had much worse male singers than this year's crop (season 3 had exactly ONE good male singer: George Huff). And the singers who made up
the season 1 semifinalists were a VERY weak group overall. People have forgotten just how many pathetic would be boyband singers, Whitneys and Mariahs were in
the group. Luckily, it also included Kelly Clarkson and Tamyra Gray. However, I do think this is the worst group of women semifinalists ever. Season 6 had very
few good white women, but this year has very few good women of ANY kind.

cook wouldn't have made it either i think. in the end i don't think it matters too much. looking back at S4-7, starting from the Top 8 or so, those people would've made it under any format. and really, i don't see how this is any worse than S6 (i remember blake lewis being the only guy who didn't completely suck ass). also maybe S4. even last year, most of the first week performances weren't that great save for maybe 3. S5 was probably the best overall in terms of first week performances.

Season 5 was awesome. Taylor probably shouldn't have won but even he had some great performances imo. "Trouble" and "In The Ghetto" for
example. I actually loved Katharine and Elliott. Daughtry I wasn't fond of at all but compared to these sucky ass bitches I'd bring that goat back in a
heartbeat.

Well I didn't watch Season 1 and to be fair the show was actually brand new and they hadn't yet started doing all their manipulative bullshit. They
were testing the waters and the winner was good so S1 gets a pass.

I agree with Suckshardcore. I had just said the season 1 semifinalists were terrible overall, but the show was new and they didn't have much publicity or
nearly as many auditioners (only 10,000, not 100,000 like season 3 and up got) so it gets a pass from me as well.
Season 5 had the best top 10 ever. It had more depth of talent than any other season. By most definitions of success, there are only 4 people on Idol who finished higher than 4th place that have real singing careers at this point, and 3 of them are from the 5th season (Kellie, Bucky and Mandisa, with Jennifer being the other one). Yes, Taylor sold the worst of any Idol winner and his CD was Clive'd into mediocrity, but he was consistently at least OK on the show with only one bad performance (Take Me Home, Country Roads). In retrospect it's odd that he won but it's not impossible to understand, either. Of the other major contenders, Mandisa self-destructed early, Chris was losing his voice by top 4 week, Katherine and Elliot weren't as consistent and Kellie was great in the semis but downright bad during most of the finals. |
