So, from this quick sequence of events in that one scene....we see Faraday setting up the rules of how time travel and fate are supposed to work, that no matter how hard you try to change things, fate will always try to stop you and course correct, that everything that has happened happened, and it was always supposed to be that way, past/present/future has all happened...then we see him aknowledge that Desmond might be the possible exception to this rule!...then Faraday puts this theory to the test and knocks on the door with no one else around...then Desmond actually answers the door, Faraday gives him a message, and we SEE Desmond getting the NEW memory years later.
Enjoying your comments phantomkp! Any theory of why Desmond acquired the new memory 3 years after leaving the island ? Like why didn't he acquire the memory of that new event as soon as he was outside the island's 'sphere' ?
Like stacy, my original thought would be that the memory should pop up according to what we know as the "present" (Faraday, and the losties stuck on island, time period) which would put us around Jan 3rd, 2005 or close to that (they crashed sept 22, 2004...the island moved 100 days later)
So, we would think Desmond would get the new memory according to Faraday's present (which would mean 4 days or so after Desmond left on the helicopter.)
However we see Desmond getting the new memory years later...
This can be explained away by the time differentials between stuff coming in from the real world to the island, as well as stuff going from the island to the real world. We know there is a time difference.
Faraday did his test with the payload package from the freighter...he discovered that depending on the angle of entry, the package could either land 30 minutes later than it should..or possibly even months or years later if the angle was far from that point! (this might also explain why the losties heard a plane and got the Dharma food drop, in 2004...well after Dharma had been defunct!)
And we also know from Ben and Locke, that when being booted out of the island..they both ended up in the real world years later than their "present"
So, i see no reason why a new memory that occured in Faradays present time, wouldnt pop up in Desmonds mind in the real world, years later, as well?
