THE SOPRANOS has always been about Tony Soprano and his role as a father and as head of a crime family, and how the two mix (and don't) and whether Tony will fall due to, or rise in spite of one, both or none. We're not talking about some Russian dude in the forest. A "Choose-your-own-ending" finale is a copout, especially for a show that people usually pay to see. One thing I really liked about THE SHIELD finale (even though I would've preferred something different to go down) is that the showrunners gave you an ending. It was a controversial ending, and many viewers didn't see "good" prevail like they were hoping, but it was an ending. David Chase might've saved a little money by hiring the guy who does the scores for LOST and just cut to black over some dramatic staccato strings. |

Nothing about the ending was ambiguous to me. The entire season sets up the finale. Tony spends the rest of his life looking over his shoulder and he's
fucked. Regardless of it happens that night or 10 years later, it's going to end badly for him.

they kill off Tigh would I feel anything. It's bad when you literally smile when someone dies.
Lost has wrenched my heart with some of the deaths. Boone. Shannon. Alex. Eko. Charlie...even Frogurt. Cally. lolz. Gaeta. alol. Dualla. lolol. |

Sounds like your real beef is with television networks then and not the show's creators. If BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was on regular TV and had 20 million viewers in its first season with no planned end date, the storyline would be stretched and stretched and streched, and the producers would be forced to cook up tangents and meandering storylines to risk not revealing all the answers too soon (which is what hurt THE SOPRANOS, I think). No TV network wants to contemplate the end of a popular series before it starts losing viewers. We're not talking CSI where there are no overarching storylines and each episode is self-contained. We're talking about serialized dramas (and ones with nonlinear narratives on top of that). Once ABC decided to end LOST after season 6, irrespective of its ratings, things improved. Why is that not obvious? |

Oh not at all. Especially considering most of their programming. I actually liked RAZOR and I can't wait for CAPRICA, but you can't accuse LOST creators of creating additional content that rounds out the story, and not do the same for BSG. AT the end of the day, all people involved are just trying to milk a hot product for extra money. This idea of the BSG creators in pursuit of some higher artistic purpose as opposed to the LOST creators is ridiculous. |

The show can stand on its own, all that extra goofy shit is just that. You don't have to unlock some ridiculous website to get the show. |

I never once thought any of the Adama loyalists were in danger during the Felix/Tom mutiny. The last big death on BSG that I had an emotional reaction to was when Ellen Tigh was murdered by her husband. |

BSG is frakk'n fantastic in it's innovation within the Sci Fi genre, and seems to be on its way to wrapping up the storyline in a fairly satisfying and
consistent way. It's darkness, grittiness, and moral ambiguity is similarly fantastic.
However, I've got to give the nod to Lost. The way they've structured the series to consist each season of telling different aspects of the story via flashbacks and flashforwards, develop new characters every season in a way that connects them back to the overarching mystery, and just in general keep an every-expanding and extremely complex storyline somehow contained is incredibly impressive ... not to mention their ability to constantly produce intriguing cliffhangers at the end of virtually every epidode. Take the last episode with the recreating of the flight 815 crash and all the details they're incorporating with the 'proxy' idea. The more I think about it, the more I'm awed by what the writers did. |

I think the creators/writers are clearly in on the viral Lost crap. I'm not saying it's not doing it's job, just that it is an example of the Lost
folks being way too wrapped up in their own made up crap.
Dee's death made me cheer with joy because I hated her. But I found it to be an emotional gut wrench, not neceissarily for her character, but for everyone as a whole. the most gut wrenching injury is Galactica herself. And if a show can make me love an inanimate made up spaceship, they're doing something right. |
