They want her on the show, tiny little thing with her ohso-edgy pink hair and her lil baby. So they put her up against Stevie and Casey whose only purpose is to make others look really good. Alexis has a very thin voice. A different contestant would have been called out for daring to sing the iconic Aretha.

My 7 yo daughter doesn't know who Carol King is or Aretha Franklin, and when Alexis was singing my daughter said, "She sounds like a black woman." At that point, I explained the concept of "blue-eyed soul." Yes, the Aretha, Carol and Kelly comparisons (direct or indirect) were a little to "big" for her. But I think she came off as a pleasant surprise. slinks back to love thread

Were you wondering why, after a horrible performance where she looked like a 12 year old dressed as a hooker, Alexis Grace was told by the judges that she belongs in the top 12? Well, we found out. SoulPatrol, a poster on our site who belongs to a private message board, says that it's being passed around that Alexis's dad needs a heart transplant and doesn't have health insurance to cover the operation. It's probably going to end up as the "feel good story" of the season, but at the expense of entertaining people like Tatiana moving on. We feel bad for Alexis's dad and all, but Alexis really isn't remotely good enough to make it on this show. Maybe she'll become a future VFTW pick?

Tatiana's lucid revelation aside, I think Alexis gave the best female vocal performance, not that it's saying a lot. Her voice is nowhere near as rich as Kelly Clarkson's, but she managed to eke out a little bit of soul. She definitely deserves to move on, imo. And I'm with Seaguy regarding the father w/ the heart transplant thing. Not that I don't believe it, it's just that if they're that intent on her advancing, seems they would've exploited that angle already.

She is the blackest sounding white women I've ever heard, aside from Motown singer Teena Marie. And on Idol, there's no such thing as too many white singers who sound black, especially when they do it well (unlike Ann Marie's meh performance). She reminds me of season 2 semifinalist Candice Coleman both vocally and physically. However, while Candice Coleman was unfairly not invited back for the Wildcard round, Alexis will be (if Titiana gets more votes then her) and will go on to be the last women left in the top 12 (out of only 4 to begin with, admittedly) after Li'l Round's shocker elimination on top 6 results night.
