The judges sadly missed having a pimped black female last season, and their constant dissing of Syesha made them look like idiots when she made the top 3 anyway. So this year the judges looked around, and Lil's Mary Blige song convinced them that she had the contemporary, commercial appeal Syesha was seen to lack. So they ignored her shortcomings (as they also did with Danny, Scott and Matt--geeez, it's a long list this year) and decided to pimp her like crazy. They wanted a malleable, exciting, sexy, commercial black woman with a strong voice. They then found out:

. Lil's voice is passable at best.

. She is great with doing her hair, but otherwise she doesn't know to dress properly or move on stage. Her peculiar figure is a challenge to any fashion designer, with her tiny sloping shoulders and huge ass, and she needs to be dressed and photographed perfectly before she will look at all alluring while performing. This hasn't happened yet (though I can think of ways it might). But it would take A LOT of work.

. She doesn't take direction well and she has no idea of her own strengths and weaknesses. She has no skills as a lyric interpreter, and no vocal style of her own. She just doesn't seem to be very bright, likable or even interesting.

. To quote another suckster, she's not bad looking but there's something dumpy and un-sexy about her.

In short, they chose the wrong woman. They saw possibilities with Lil that just aren't there. And mostly it's not really Lil's fault. She's probably a good wife and mother, and her voice probably sounds fine when she sings in church or to her kids. Judging from the show, I bet she'd be a great hairdresser. But she's just not cut out to be a professional singer.
