She's barely been heard for more than a few seconds, stop exaggerating about how "bad" she sounds. I bet your "black" vote will go to whoever sounds like her but just isn't black:) While I generally agree with this (the blonde who was having group performance drama with the black girl with the hideous red weave is just as screechy), I do think this girl is overrated and dull. It's the Jennifer Hudson effect. AI doesn't want to let another "diva" slip through the cracks, but you'd think after Fantasia they'd be chary about backing the wrong horse.

How the fuck could she be out of her league when friggin' Jasmine Trias was still around? It's like he felt that he had to smear any competitor who would threaten Fantasia's voting base.

Those three were always going to be compared to one another and Jennifer was seen as the weakest, by far (by Simon).

They pumped up LaToya and overpraised dozens of mediocre performances by her, all the while tearing down Jennifer. I knew then how wrong they were, but I think history bears out that I am correct in this.

I knew then how wrong they were, but I think history bears out that I am correct in this. exactly, she didn't make it in, not even in the top 3, it took a judge to take her to the top 12. and LaToya wasn't overpraised, we didn't even see her until she performed in the semis until then she was just thought of as fodder plus she was slammed in her motown week performance. after Circle of Life, Jennifer was a clear favorite to win unfortunately Fantasia and LaToya had more fans by then.

Jennifer sang the heck out of "Imagine" -- it was THE best semifinal performance of that whole season. Simon didn't praise her, though, but he did praise Fanny and 'Dunkin Donuts' DeGarmo, so they made it in and Boomie didn't. Then, two weeks later, the judges overpraised Blah-Toya's semifinal performance more than any other performance in the history of the show. Blah-Toya was okay at best, and she was every bit as boring in the semis as she was in every one of her subsequent performances. And yet, the SHEEP in the audience fell for the judges' BS and voted for Blah-Toya in droves, despite the fact that she is nothing special. And I don't recall Blah-Toya being slammed in her Motown performance because I don't remember it at all... Because Blah-Toya is unmemorable. I DO remember the judges slamming Jennifer in her Motown performance, though, even though it was a VERY GOOD performance.

Very few people seem to remember the unflattering, fat-enhancing outfits she wore. Plus he loved Latoya (and for some insane reason, Mantasia) so he did consider Jennifer 3rd best of the black women, and thus dispensible. But he changed his mind on top 9 night, and from that point he probably would have loved a top 3 consisting of the 3 of them. To his credit he praised her last 3 performances (yes, including Weekend In New England; I have the judges on tape) and was as appalled as the rest of us when she was voted off. Simon's own recollections of what happened are quite incorrect and feed the myth that he disliked her all the way through. What I don't know is why there's been so much Latoya hate on Sucks lately. Her career since Idol hasn't amounted to much, but I do like her CD and I would have been happy to see her win season 3. What happened to all the Latoya fans? The comments in this thread have been great. The "painful, not soulful" line is a classic. Li'l Rounds is good but has definitely been overpimped.

Randy Jackson said that latoya London was the best technical singer the show had ever seen and I agree. But, he did say that sometimes it takes more than a great singing voice but look at Carrie Underwood. Nobody can debate with me that Jennifer was better than Latoya on Idol at ALL. Jennifer did have 3 very good performances back to back before she wa sunfairly ousted, but overall, Latoya was better than her on the show and I think most know that.

Simon was hard om Jennifer Hudson at first but praised her last 3 performances and even said she was one of the "frontrunner's" after she sang the Whitney Houston song. But, before that, she had poor song choice selections while Latoya London did not. You may not like Latoya, and think she is unmemorable, but it's pure bias because Latoya was great on the show week in and week out.

I firmly believe that you all believe that LaToya was great only because the judges TOLD you she was great. They were wrong (big shocker, there - They also told ANalWARt that he was "the best technical singer" right after he finished screeching tunelessly in Season 4) and you are wrong. LaToya was entirely mediocre most weeks on the show. She had a couple of performances that were better, but NONE of them came close to Jennifer's or even Fantasia's best performances. And NONE of Jennifer's performances were bad, no matter how badly Simon tried to convince us otherwise. Bad song choices? In his opinion, maybe, but she still rocked the songs...

I think Jennifer was a little "all over the place" when she first started on Idol. She had this huge voice, but I don't think she knew exactly how to control it yet. Also, at the beginning, she stood out for all the wrong reasons. People remembered her as this loud singer with awful fashion sense (the tinfoil outfit, the naughty nurse, and her wild card gown). I remember she also had these weird facial tics going on during "Imagine." Latoya could be screechy at times, but I honestly think that's going to happen with any singer that belts songs out. I personally thought she was a lot like Tamyra, technically good but lacking in the personality department. And, for the record, I found "Shummertime" much more overrated than "All By Myself." Jennifer probably grew the most that season, but she happened to be on the wrong season. She was in one where she was lumped in with two other singers who many believed were better.
