After tonight, I think a good case -can- be made for Stephen as the most viable edgic pick, but for me Sierra still makes the most sense and here's why. I really think (forgive me if I'm merely restating the obvious) that in the end, everything will tie back to the opening comments made by Erinn, Tyson, Sandy, Stephen, Coach and Sierra.

I was pretty perplexed last week when Sandy was voted out w/o any seeming explanation for/resolution to her comment about Stephen and being able to "lead him around real easy." It struck me then, that the comments weren't about Sandy and Stephen together so much as the first impression of each in general and how they would impact the game. Stephen said something along the lines of, "the old lady, it's great to have her around because you know you won't be the first one voted out." Well Sandy wasn't the first one voted out, Carolina was. Sandy's purpose/journey basically ended after she proved Stephen's generalized impression of her wrong and wasn't the first one voted out. Well I know what you're probably saying, "duh." Well I'm going somewhere with this I promise.

Based on my interpretation, Stephen's purpose in the story is proving that he will not be easily led around, not by Sandy, but by Brendan and Taj. I expect he'll be instrumental in getting rid of Brendan, and that it will probably be in order to save JT, and that this will probably happen very early in the merge. A blindside like this would give Sierra the ultimate humble tumble to recover from in the games home stretch. I really liked what Kitty said about Sierra's wakeup call and humbling coming from Brendan being blindsided and not her, and I think it would just make a lot of sense. Stephen was shown tonight to recognize Brendan as a threat, and obviously JT and Stephen's friendship was highlighted for a reason. It should all come into play down the stretch.

Erinn and Tyson seem more closely tied to each other in their opening comments, and I think we all realize that these two are destined to have some sort of grand showdown later on down the road. So Erinn referred to Tyson as a "good guy to have around". Based on this, I think that Tyson's main role in the story is that of a bad guy to have around, or a villain, (once again "Duh" I know) and that he will be anything but a good guy to have around as the story progresses. He needs to prove his first impression wrong, and in some ways I'd say he already has. He definitely isn't a good guy for Erinn to have around as he's repeatedly talked about wanting to: make her cry, crush her dreams and blindside her, etc.. I agree w/ many of you that Erinn will be instrumental in blindsiding Tyson, and that will be the irony.

Which brings us to Erinn. Ahh, Erinn, so much debate over her edit. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I agree with CL, Blake and many others, she's important to something game changing, but she is not our winner. In a season with edits like Stephen and Sierra's, edits that are so well tended to, it's really silly to fret over an inferior edit (edgically) like Erinn's, although it clearly does have importance and craft. I don't think Erinn is necessarily a P or N force at this point, but she is an underdog, and she's almost default P out of necessity because of the people against her, but I think the real edit for her has yet to begin. In his opening comments, Tyson referred to Erinn as, "the young brunette, she looks kinda like the bitch." So is Erinn's edit simply about proving she isn't a bitch? I don't really think so, I think with Tyson and Erinn, the impressions will be switched by the end of the season. Most likely Tyson will come across looking like "the bitch" and Erinn will be a "good person" to have around, in that she helps take out the villains in some sort of game changing power shift that wouldn't have been possible w/o her. It's all set up from the beginning to be completely flipped, just like it was with Sandy and Stephen.

So that brings me to Sierra. I think based on what can be inferred from everyone else's opening comments, that Coach pretty much reveals Sierra as our winner when he says, "unfortunately I don't think this blond is going to last." Sierra's story has been centered around that comment from the very beginning and will carry through to the very end. Sierra's purpose in the story is to do the exact opposite of Coach's prophecy. She will last, in fact she will be the last one standing and she will win the game.
