Posts: 205 (03/12/09 7:20 PM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Interesting how Spencer's first confessional mentioned his love for the challenges... and then he gets voted out because of one. It wasn't a surprise to me to see him go home-- it's never a good sign when it takes five episodes for you to really get any character development (from confessionals that were probably from earlier in the game anyway). Not much of a change this week in potential winners. Sierra had a great cooldown, Stephen picked up some complexity, and Tyson and Erinn both had a great UTR episode. The one person to take a bit of a dive this week is JT-- he's turning into a bit of a hero caricature, not as much complexity as I'd like, not as hidden as he could be. Without visibility rankings: CPM-- Taj & Spencer CP-- Stephen & Brendan OTTP-- JT MOR-- Joe MORN-- Brendan UTR-- Erinn, Tyson, Sydney, Debbie UTRP-- Sierra (I could see neutral)

I guess it's a typical few-days-before-merge episode where tensions run high. You are not going to like my ratings and rantings, but here they go (I am enjoying this season so much I started taking notes lol-the first time doing so since Thailand). TIMBIRA: COACH: UTRN3-really not sure what he gets this episode. It was a cool down and he almost got a P for uncovering part of Brenden's plan but BOOM, Erinn disses him again lol. TYSON: CPP2-another strange episode for a major "character". He was supposed to be positive when figuring out there's something up with Brenden. But it was short and sweet. His target is on someone other than Erinn. Instead of just wanting people's dreams to end, he actually has a serious plan. This was actually very good for him, but doesn't put him at #1 quite yet. ERINN: UTRN2: She was just snarky but funny when it comes to Coach. Her whole story revolves around Coach and Tyson. Here's what I gather from all of this. The Exiles get uncovered and lose at least one member. Erinn is pulled in as a DH and just when Coach and Tyson think they have the game back in their hands, she helps to blindside them both. Still the editing for everyone on Timbira was so quick that it's hard to place actual edits (typical of the complex tribe days before a merge when they don't go to TC). DEBRA: UTR1-ugh, worst edit of anyone at this point. Even worse than Jenn (S10) and Natalie (S16) at this juncture. BRENDEN: CPN4-he's become the cocky one from the EA's. He will be the villain of that group. I think if members of that alliance make it all the way, Brenden will be sacrificed as Tyson suggests. He doesn't totally deserve an N, but his arrogance will get him it. SIERRA: MORN2-Our little Edgic darling gets an N for the same reason Brenden gets it. The EA's are WAY too confident. This is two weeks in a row where she says she went from the bottom to the top. Is this reverse doubt? Either the EA's get busted up or they will be reconfigured. I am confused because I am not sure if this is what we meant by necessary doubt. She's not nervous about the alliance but rather overconfident. That's actually not good, but not for the right reasons. JALAPAO STEPHEN: CPP4-he was actually the unscathed member of the EA this episode and the least confident. He is the one who is questioning this whole thing in the back of his head while the other 3 think they have it in the bag. In addition, he was the most positively edited person on Jalapao this episode. This was a GREAT episode for him in terms of his chances. He's still boring as hell to me and I wish he had more earlier this season, but this REALLY helps the case that most people here have been making. SYDNEY: UTR1-nada, once again-no mention of a boot, nothing-sad thing is that it looks like she makes the damn merge!!! JOE: MORN3-part of the "pick on Spencer" group-implicated as negative even though he really wasn't that negative SPENCER: OTTP4-I am going to get slaughtered for this rating by some, supported by others. He was the sympathetic character this season around the "bullies" on his tribe. He sucked at the challenge BUT how often does a relatively fit male who messes up at one challenge get booted? Is this the first time? It was pure ego that got him booted. I just wonder why Sydney's name never came up. I guess that's ego too. JT: OTTN4 (okay, I've been calling him TJ for weeks now and nobody said anything LOL): Anyway, to me, that's an easy rating. He had a temper and took it out on the guy who messed up. His "hero" story tonight was trumped by his attitude. But that tooth is either a testament to his passion or a major infection in the making (or both). TAJ: OTTN5: the CPN went overboard and turned into the inevitable OTTN. This was coming. I didn't think she was going to get it even when the water scene began. However, when everyone said they trusted her and she STILL blew up, that was ridiculous. You have a secure cross alliance. You have the trust of people on your tribe. NOBODY is thinking of voting you out even after voting in the minority. You have access to the idol. You do NOT blow up and play the name game. You lay low and let people come to YOU to ask where your vote is going. Then you place it in the most obvious direction. To me, the smartest player in the game may have made one of the dumbest moves by playing the emotions. She just outed herself. Winners: 1. Stephen: temporarily at #1 due to a GREAT episode. He was the one who came out squeaky clean on his tribe and in the EA. 2. Sierra: the doubt came from overconfidence; should still be #1 but now she needs to have some major doubt next episode just before the assumed merge. She NEEDS to question the EA and especially Brenden. She needs to have choices to make and we need to see her struggle with those choices (new choices-she already made several important choices such as to build shelter instead of find the idol, get Brenden's help; now she needs to figure out if she should stick with the EA). If one of the EA's leaves soon, she may actually benefit edgically. 3. Tyson: This epiosde helped a nearly lost cause. If he wasn't off the list completely, he just stepped up a little bit. I still don't see much stability in any strategy right now. His biggest allies are the invisible Deb and the freakish Coach. Does this suddenly become the alliance of misfits? 4. Erinn: She was featured. She didn't go into hiding yet. That keeps her alive, barely. 5. Taj: Barely-an OTTN is not good and she's outed BUT she may not be OTTN from everyone. Realistically, her chances are almost gone. 6. Brenden-only because he isn't eliminated. Not sure why I am listing him in all honesty. Maybe because he's arrogant BUT all around positive and has major doubt from Tyson and Coach. So at least he has more doubt than Sierra which is not a bad thing. Possible Resurgence? Coach? Is there a positive shift coming? Does he become part of a new "misfit" alliance? Eliminated: Deb, Sydney: Non-entities Joe: A little to little too late JT: This episode killed his chances (and his tooth).

To me, it's to pinpoint the suspense of what the story will be with the storytellers working backwards from the ending. you need to take the height of the drama from the ending and build from there ideally for the most tension. scrap most of everything that doesn't add to it or color current episodes along the way. All I could pinpoint last season was Sugar was facing the jury -and basically that's all the ending was -the Sugar hour with Bob and Susie sitting by. Sierra's facing that jury, no doubt. What else -who else? Stephen? Taj? Brendan?

That said, I do think that Stephen will be more loyal to JT than Taj at the merge assuming all three make it. I could see Stephen filling JT in on the exile alliance and at the final 5/6 Brendan is blindsided.

I think a lot of it depends on whether or not Timbira goes to Tribal Council next week. If Jalapao loses IC again next week there's no reason why Sierra can't get a good UTR again. At least she's not debatable invisible like Parvati was at this point in Micronesia.

I guess I meant "a continued cooldown", then, from her first few episodes. However you look at it, she's getting the story and complexity in bits and pieces, all while being surrounded by distractions like Coach, Brendan, Taj, and perhaps even Tyson/Erinn.

In my opinion...Tyson was not P (he was toneless), Brendan/Sierra/Erinn were not N (they were all toneless), Taj/Stephen/JT were M, and I didn't detect any tone for Joe and Spencer.

Parvati, and even Chris didn't have that in their string of UTR's. But Sierra's confessionals during those have been important. But what scares me is the back-to-back episodes where she says she's on top. She needs to take a tumble soon to climb back up again.

Overconfidence is definitely N in my book, but like I said, my ratings will be met with opposition. That's fine though-it's what makes things different.

Jedi. most likely the exhiles will take a tumble -or not really get off the ground. Probably make the merge or without Taj, and Stephen sells out Brendan and Sierra goes from there. Can still see her working with Coach and Erinn in the story.

How does that earn her an N? And I still am having the most trouble figuring out why Tyson is P.
