I do think the only tone rating that makes sense is NN. It certainly isn't the classic NN of Judd, in which the editors are going out of their way to show the person as nasty or bad. The thing is, Ben simply wasn't positive: because he was edited, even when semi-sympathetically, as delusional. He never spoke frankly about his backache, or how people are dealing with him or he with others. Instead, his personal confessionals were inevitably little more than the cheap sort of crap you'd find in Hallmark's Idiot Hero section of greeting cards. If there is - anywhere - a compendium of Coachisms from his confessionals, try and read them with a straight face. You'll roll your eyes or laugh or vomit. He has no insight, no perspective in his edit. He is perhaps the most one-dimensionally edited person in survivor history.

Yes, I fully concede there were moments when we were supposed to sympathize with him, but more in the matter of feeling sorry for someone in an institution who will tomorrow go out to the south lawn and fight the dragons yet again. And the editors never let us - not even for a moment - entertain the thought that he was nothing more than what his SPV made him into. That is a huge factor in his negativity. He never uttered a substantive, non-warriorspeak alternative explanation to his utter goofiness. Even Randy explained to us he was going to be a jerk.

If there was a choice of JJ for super-duper joke, I'd give it to him. But with what we have NN is the best choice.
