Tyson's comment (and all his other nasty comments) are meant to elicit sympathy for the one he's attacking, rather than agreement. Look at how unexplained his Erinn attacks have been.
But, Sierra was still given an N edit in her Merge feast comment, which also paved the way for Tyson's "stupid" comment. She was definitely meant to look stupid for her feast question. We get the shocked looks from her alliance members (plus JT, which was an interesting inclusion), and we get Stephen's speech about needing to be discreet, but no chance for Sierra to defend herself.
