Sooo many Pinoy breakers -- I said it last year and I'll say it again -- Filipinos are taking over the break dancing world. ABDC is swarming with Pinoy.
Finished ep 5, but I'll spoilerize since not everyone is caught up:

I have no idea what Forever was trying to do with that Benny Hill number, but it was epic fail.

So You Think You Can Dance Australia is the shit, and this season is kicking ass so far.
I don't know what it is, but I have a huge smile on my face whenever I watch this version. The editing, great music choices, non-irritating judges, awesome dancers, and genuine focus on talent and growth (as opposed to mocking bad dancers) is what makes me love this show. I snuck a peek at the official website a few hours ago and glanced at the top 20, and ....I am kind of disappointed. I really want to see Episode 6 to understand why a bunch of the people that I was rooting for got cut at Top 40. |

Ya, but you have to look at Rhys last year. Big flamer, make-up to the max, and a part time drag queen. BUT when he danced, he danced like a man. I remember
the tango, and he was hot, and his hip hop was hard hitting. So as much as I hate the flamers, I have to give it to Rhys for breaking a tightly held stereotype
that they(flamers) can not pull of a strong masculine dance routine with a woman.
I was wondering was that Steven (pictured with Maxx above), was he the 'Mr Gay Australia' guy who tried out last year? Episode 6 is up and sooo good: I love the top 20 show and the warehouse, the film effects and GREAT music they use. And am only disappointed that one of the guys and one girl didn't make the top 20. And what did you all think of Maxx's comment to Jason??? She is a twit in my mind, and loved the very cold handshake he gave her at the very end. also.. Nathalie B love, she is a sweet and caring hostess and she is catching up to Cat as fav host of tv show. |

I DL'ed ep 6 yesterday, so I'll watch it tonight. I thought Rhys was the Mr. Gay Australia.
I still think Nat is a drip. Sometimes, I will catch a contestant hugging and chatting with someone after they are cut and I don't even realize it's Nat until they flash her name. That's how much of a blank she is for me. |

GAH, I had the same disappointments as you Heliox, though I was also upset squat lil' Sammi didn't make it through either. I loved how almost every
time it's so dramatic and even though you're pretty sure someone's a lock for the top 20, you end up constantly second-guessing yourself because
sometimes the judges can be completely out of their minds. I was more than happy Christian was cut before the top 40 due to his lack of partnering skills, same
with David (Hilton's bro), who I just found obnoxious. One person's good time is another person's utter misery.
I was actually hoping Ann Marie would make it over Max and they'd show some love for the big(ger) girl, but now Max is essentially in the same boat that Katee was in the last US season. The audience has a completely negative impression of her and she's going to have to absolutely blow it out of the water in the first week if she wants any chance of staying. That, or the judges put her through knowing she'd be cannon fodder. I think I may be a bigger fan of the boys this season than the girls, since they're such a trainwreck, but I do like Talia and Gianne. Amy is so busted, but apparently she's a good dancer, so...Anyway, Damien is completely lust-worthy, so let's hope he lasts fairly long into the season. |

Great Top 20 episode
Great Top 20 group routine This show rules. Other thoughts: -Penny and Charlie stole the show. I'm getting Benji & Donyelle vibes from these two. -Danny and Kat's routine was fantastic. -Sam Sparro looks completely different from what I was expecting. -I appreciated that the couples kept the mugging to a minimum. -It seems like the guys are stronger overall this season. Too bad about Jesse. Too bad about Max as well -- I always feel bad for the first few couples who get eliminated because they are all really talented. Max came off kind of harsh during auditions but I could tell that the competition really meant a lot to her. |

I thought it was a pretty fantastic episode. I didn't expect the lyrical routines to do as well as they did, since last season I believe the lyricals ended
up in the bottom 3 first week out. I was predicting Lamb/Timomatic to be in the bottom over Amy/Damien, but their routine didn't really have the *pop* that
I remember Camilla/Sermsah's Broadway routine having last year.
It's pretty clear that Danny/Kat are being sold to us as the new Rhys/Jemma. Big emotional routine in week 1, youngest girl in competition with flaming homo, etc. I feel that part of the selection this year had to do with possibly duplicating some of the success stories of last year. Penny and Charlie absolutely won the night. I played that routine over about 3 times after first watching it because it was so energetic and fun, even with the odd/creepy vampire thing with it. As Nat said, "vampires are so hot right now", haha. I like that Charlie really began to stand out after their concern that his personality wasn't really showing during top 100 week. I'm not the biggest Penny fan (when she found out she was in the top 20 it looked like her face was melting off) but she is a bubbly, happy girl so she may not be "deep" but as long as she can dance and bring it like she did this week, she can go on with her bad self. Really liked Pania and Ben's opening routine. the Presets are an awesome Aussie group and it was good to be able to finally recognize a song that had been playing all through the auditions. Bummed we couldn't see the Chanelle/Loredo "slinky" bit, but that bang on the head looked awfully painful so it's for the best. Damien is hot, so I'm glad he didn't go...Max didn't stand a chance if she had a weak first routine. She really had to knock it out of the park like Katee did after her foolish remarks but her routine ended up being the definite lowlight of the evening. I never got the feeling she was strong enough of a dancer to go very far anyway. I agree about the guys, I think it's going to be a lot harder cutting them than any of the girls. Get ready for another male winner. |

thank God someone else noted how badly Amy's face is busted because I didn't want to be the first to bring it up!
Are both Jason and Matt gay? I actually thought Jason was straight! |
|||
Hanson |
|||
|
I think it's the other way around -- Matt is straight but femme, Jason is straight acting but gay. I know for a fact Jason is gay (he outright said so
during one of the shows last year -- he made a comment to one of the girls about IF he were into girls). Matt might be gay, but I believe he's
(surprisingly) straight. I was disappointed that Supple wasn't featured in the first show -- hopefully, he just missed that show and is still available as
a choreographer.
And on top of everything else, Amy's eyes are slightly crossed. Poor thing. |

Hmm....was I the only one who watched the show on YouTube this week?
(....crickets chirping....) Oh well, this show is still rad and the Top 18 show was great. I really have no criticisms. The hip hop routines had some great choreography - I kind of wish they were danced a bit better. Talia and Emmanuel were especially weak. The results show was awesome - those dance for your life solos were blazing and much better than last week's. Poor Stephen was so choked. I expected him to make Top 10, and I'm pretty sure he expected it as well. Ash-Leigh's solo kicked ass. I was kind of hoping that Lamb was going to get the axe. Is it just me, or does she seem a little bit overrated? Hey it's all good. |

Wow, kind of shocked at the Top 18 show results. I think the big surprise was not seeing Emmanuel and Talia in the bottom 3 after closing the show on such a
clunker note. I also expected Amy and Damien to be back in the bottom 3 (which I don't want to see since Damien is hoooooot) - couldn't believe both
hip-hop groups didn't really "hit" their routines with the judges, since those are usually the standouts of the evening because they're so
high energy (Penny & Charlie last week)
B.J. and Gianne were definitely the best routine of the evening. I love that cover by Natasha Bedingfield and was surprised to hear it used! I think Danny & Kat also did very well with their Mannequin-inspired number. Of course, Penny and Charlie couldn't live up to the amazingness of their previous routine, but I think they did a fair job of it. I feel like they're a Top 10 lock at this point, but Penny will likely be gone in that first round after. Has anyone else noticed she has some of the most hideous facial expressions? When she laughs, she turns into a horse. When she was crying after finding out she was in the Top 20, it looked like her face had begun melting off. She is at her best when she is smiling, which is why I think she is best suited for cheerleading. I worry about them crashing and burning if they get a dramatic lyrical routine (don't think Jack and Demi ever had one of those, though they did do Ballroom) As Jason said, Penny hits every move really hard, which is probably because of what she's used to with cheer moves. Good luck to her finding the "light and shade". I figured Ash-leigh (random hyphen hate!) was a goner for being in the bottom a second week in the row. She just wasn't really connecting or showing any personality. I was surprised Stephen left, however, considering how they'd just been calling it the "best male DFYL on the show" and hyping up how unique of a dancer he is. I would have liked to see him form a new pair with Chanelle, as I thought Loredo was going to go (Actually, I thought it would be Timomatic until they told him he was safe first thing off). Female standouts for me: Gianne, Pania, Kat Male standouts for me: B.J., Ben, Charlie, Danny - and Damien for pure lust reasons Lamb-omatic = the new Twitchington? barf. |

On paper, it's a shock Stephen left this early, but since the live show started, I was never once wowed by his dance with his partner. Not necessarily
boring, just nothing interesting.
I thought his bicycle dance to dance for his life was overrated, at least technically not that great. The two african guys completely owned Stephen on that round. |

BJ & Gianne were defo the best of the night and by a lot. But I'm still not sold on either dancer for some reason.
Charlie got outed in his routine -- he presented himself as a self-taught breaker, but he's obviously had a lot of training. He was unexpectedly way better at Jazz dancing than Penny was. Now that we know Charlie has the training and the chops, he may be this year's Jack. Yes, Lamb is very overrated. She just has a weird name. I didn't made that Lamb-Omatic/Twitchington connection when I saw their shirts. But yeah, barf. I felt bad for Laredo and Chanelle, as I really liked their salsa and thought Jason's critique was overly negative. I think Damien and Amy were able to escape DFYL because their fans voted extra hard this week. Both hip hop routines were unspectacular. Emmanuel was the only thing worth watching in his -- Talia did nothing. I don't "get" Pania. Does nothing for me at all. That found that Rumba to be blah, and I feel like they go overboard with the kudos because she's not trained (a la Demi). When Penny's smiles really hard, she looks like Jennifer Tilly. So far: Penny = Jemma 2.0. Pania = Demi 2.0. Charlie = Jack 2.0. BJ = Graeme 2.0. Talia = Vanessa 2.0. Kat = Rhiannon 2.0. I suppose Damien is kind of Henry 2.0, but Henry was in a different league. YouTube is an eyesore. I download the torrent on Sunday and Monday afternoons. |

Charlie and Penny were really good, but I liked Kat & Danny more, mostly because of Marko's choreo.
I thougtht Laredo and Chanelle's salsa last week was better than Gianne and BJ's. The latter was ponderous in spots, and the last lift combo was
excruciating to watch. That said, I would be shocked if Laredo & Chanelle weren't in the bottom 3. That's was more Bollywood-ish than hip hop.
