This is some great news, I thought possibly the show might become weaker after Charla and Mirna were gone. However, with the ratings being higher than they have been with TAR5 then this is great!
I am still hoping they move TAR during the week. |

For Ratings it was the best night, not in viewers!
TAR got 10.7 million viewers Tuesday night, yet on Week 3 it got 11.1 million viewers. TAR is losing its viewers per rating point. Which is actually good in the aspect that the rating is going up. |

Much of the NY area didn't get the last ep. on Tuesday, at least I didn't in CT because the yankee game ended at 6 minutes after ten. Believe me I was pissed because they showed 25 minutes of fall previews and never let on that they would scrap the show (hello, I'll take 54 minutes of an hour show!!!). Low and behold at 10:30, a repeat of ET or some such BS. There is 1/2 hour of my life I will never get back! Expect some catch-up viewing for Sat. night.

Quote:Sorry to have to tell you but TAR isn't on this Saturday night. It's the US Open live in the east and some movie on the west coast. NYC saw TAR after the Yankee game but the Conn people got screwed. According to another board's Conn posters the show was aired at 2 AM with no notice by the station it was being shown at that ungodly hour. If that was my local affliate I'd give them an angry call because if enough people call in a station does listen. If they don't then just call and tell them Colin will be dropping by to see them real soon, chortle. |

Thanks for the advanced warning GR! It will save me some grief on Sat. I really feel sorry for those poor bastards that got their 2am show axed without warning!

Maybe people like TAR more outside of NYC and that is why the ratings went up. Maybe NYC is why Law and Order SVU (set in NYC) usually beats TAR.
Feel free to rebut me with numbers. |

Quote: Well, to a certain extent it doesn't matter that total viewers went down. Every network suffers at that point. If you have the best market share, then you are beating the competition. That's certainly a very important measure of success. CBS doesn't really control primary demand - the total number of people watching TV on that Tuesday night. Their goal is to grab the biggest share of the available market. They did it with TAR5 at 10pm. |

From Zap2It:
Quote: Even tho it was second in its time slot, it was also the second highest rated show of the night, ahead of BB5, its lead-in. It's weird that both L&O and TAR5 had 12 shares. I guess Nielsen understands how that is possible. I know each ratings point equals some number around a mil viewers but I can't remember exactly what. Share (the 12) means 12% of viewers watching were watching this show. Here is an explanation of a ratings point: Quote: |

yay TAR!!!
It's sad that it doesn't get Survivor-like ratings. It's just as good as Survivor, especially this season. |

Even though L&O:SUV received better household ratings, TAR clobbered it in in the important 18-49 demo. Since reality shows tend to be watched by viewers per household than sitcoms or dramas, TAR probably had better viewership numbers overall.

It looks as if TAR may be a victim of its own success, insofar as the next season may be delayed for a while. Boohoo. This was on TV Guide online:
article Change of Pace Is The Amazing Race headed for a detour? If you were looking forward to watching the next season of The Amazing Race on Saturday nights this fall, start making other plans. The next installment of the CBS reality show was supposed to air on TV's loneliest night of the week starting in late September. But as you know, hits are hard to come by, and if you have one, you don't put it on Saturday night, when young viewers are least available. Ratings for the last few weeks of the current Amazing Race have been near the top of Nielsen's rankings for viewers 18 to 49. If it were the regular TV season, Race would be CBS's sixth most popular show in that demographic, which is favored most by advertisers. That's why CBS is choosing to "rest" the show for about a month or so after it wraps up its current run in a two-hour finale on Tuesday. When The Amazing Race does come back, look for it to show up in a more high-profile time period. CBS touts itself as the most popular network among viewers in all age groups, but being able to challenge NBC and Fox for leadership in the 18-to-49 category would help the network extract millions of dollars more in ad rates from Madison Avenue. The Amazing Race can help CBS do that. Where could it go? Tuesday is the most likely night, where CBS's baseball-themed drama Clubhouse is the longest of long shots at 9 pm/ET. Since NBC's Father of the Pride will apparently be sticking around for a while, Race would have no reality competition in the hour. Or if one of CBS's new comedies doesn't work out, The King of Queens can return to Mondays, and Race could move into the Wednesday 9 pm slot, against ABC's The Bachelor, which is starting to fade. Then there's Friday, where the new 10 pm drama dr. vegas is expected to be a tough sell. Needless to say, CBS will have some options. Failure is inevitable when a new fall season rolls out. But rarely does a network have a weapon as potent as The Amazing Race to pull out when it happens. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO COUNTERPROGRAMMING? We know that the CSI: NY versus Law & Order showdown is one of the great prime-time matchups in years (both face off in the Wednesday 10 pm time period). But this is taking it a little too far. A few weeks ago we received our invitation to a premiere screening of CSI: NY on Sept. 21 at the Ed Sullivan Theater. Then in the mail today comes a lovely invite from NBC to celebrate the network's Law & Order franchise. On the same night. |
