It's sad that all of this will go to naught due to putting the show on Saturday.

A common rule of thumb is that competing shows lose 10% of their audience when they air opposite The Olympics.
Taking that into account, next Tuesday's episode should draw between 9 and 9.5 million viewers. |

Tuesday's The Amazing Race Scored a 6.1/10 which was well below the 15.2/24 scored by the Olympics, but still good for second place in the time slot, and not bad overall. The show has kept its core audience all season.

Episode 1: 6.5/11
Episode 2: 6.4/11 Episode 3: 6.9/12 Episode 4: 6.1/10 Up against the Democratic Convention! Episode 5: 6.6/11 Episode 6: 6.7/11 Episode 7: 5.6/9 Up against the Olympics! Episode 8: 6.4/10 Up against the Olympics! Edit to confer with the zap2it ratings... I was going off of what I saw on imdb, which is less reliable. |

This gets my hopes up that if this season and next continue to have ratings this well, that CBS may consider releasing these and the previous seasons on DVDs to get some money from the newcomers.
While I've got the previous seasons on VHS, quality is only so-so and I'm missing a few episodes so this would be great to add to my collection. |

Cuauhtemoc Cosby et al, I gather it's pretty amazing that TAR pulled 6.4/10 against the Olympics, but would you
please elaborate a bit? During past Olympics, have other shows performed as well, etc. Thanks. zahadumguy, I would love for TAR [esp TAR1] to come out on DVD or video. I began watching TAR2 around the next to last episode, I think and have been hooked, of course, ever since. |

Nielsens for August 23-29:
NBC finishes #1 through #7 with the Olympics; CBS takes all the spots from #8 through #20, with TAR5 in 11th. yY! |

6.0/9, according to Zap2it, for Episode 9.
Father of the Pride debuted at 7.0 (which was not regarded as a thrilling debut). Big Brother was 5.2/8. |

Even more impressive in the context of the other shows....finally nice to see this show on top of the heap!
----- NBC ran several hours of fresh fall programming and FOX premiered a heavily hyped boxing reality show, but in the end, Tuesday night was summer business as usual, with CBS running away with the ratings race. Overall, CBS averaged a 7.0 rating/11 share with NBC in second with a 5.6/9. ABC was third with a 4.8/8 and FOX took fourth with a 4.0/6. UPN claimed fifth with a 1.7/3, topping The WB's 1.4/2. CBS also won among adults 18-49, taking a 4.1 rating in the key demographic. NBC was second with a 3.2 rating, followed by FOX's 2.9 rating and the 2.6 rating for ABC. UPN had a 0.9 rating, just edging the 0.8 for The WB. It was a nightly sweep for CBS beginning with "Navy NCIS," which posted a commanding 7.1/12 for the 8 p.m. hour. ABC was second with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," which beat the 4.6/8 for FOX's "Trading Spouses." Viewers continued to show that they weren't ready for another season of NBC's "Last Comic Standing," plunking the reality series in fourth for the hour. UPN got a 1.8/3 average from "All of Us" and "Eve." The WB's "Gilmore Girls" repeat trailed. At 9 p.m., CBS' "Big Brother 5" posted a strong 6.8/11 for first. NBC was second with "Father of the Pride" (6.1/9), which improved on its anemic lead-in, and "Scrubs" (5.1/8). ABC was third with two solid "According to Jim" repeats. Despite weeks of buzz and controversy, FOX's "Next Great Champ" premiered in fourth with a 3.3/5, finishing fourth among adults 18-49 as well. UPN's encore of "The Player" finished fifth, outdoing the 1.2/2 for a "One Tree Hill" repeat on The WB. CBS closed the night with the 7.0/12 for "Amazing Race 5," which was the night's most watched program. NBC was a close second with the 6.9/11 for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." ABC's "In the Jury Room" wasn't competitive in third. |

It's obvious that CBS is making a huge mistake by shifting the show to a Saturday time slot. Pesrsonally, I'd shift 60 Minutes 2 to Saturday and place TAR in that comfy 8pm/7pm Wednesday slot.
