A deaf son + his mother <3 It's going to be fun watching other teams trying to figure out what they are signing to each other.
Yay I'll be able to review my basic ASL knowledge watching this team.

I am unsure whether to like them yet - they totally a hybrid of Susan/Patrick's dorky son + Mom combo, with the schmaltz of Toni/Dallas.
If their human side comes out more than the OTTP cheesy "yay deaf people can do anything" edit, they could be cool. |

I really want to like them, but they will not make it far because they will depend on the mom, ie a woman to last that long, that will make them as good as any
female team and this far none of them has won.

I like the idea of casting a deaf person. I'm not too worried about their longevity since, after all, a deaf guy won TARA2.
But man, TAR is just shelling out the mother/son teams now. First Susan & Patrick in TAR7, then Toni & Dallas six seasons later. I'll bet after this season, they'll put that combo out to pasture for a while. |

But man, TAR is just shelling out the mother/son teams nowJust like in the classics, two consecutive parent-child variations. (Mom-Daughter; Father-Son; Father-Daughter from TAR1-6. And arguably Mom-Son twice, though with TAR8 that's kind of different). If you take out All-Stars and Family, the only team that totally breaks that pattern is Wanda/Desiree. |

I'm not getting a Patrick and Susan vibe at all. I think this is one of those teams we are going to really like once the show starts.

This team is already far more interesting than the dud mom/son team last season.... What were their names again?

I am quite worried about how Luke will be able to make it in the course. In their video he does not appear to be able to speak well, and it's unclear how
good his lipreading skills are. Unlike his friend Christy from Survivor who got along quite well just lipreading and speaking. I guess as long as he has a
writing pad (and someone can write/read english) he will make out okay.

I have faith that they can do well since a deaf guy won TARA2.

I think being deaf might actually help him on the race especially since his Mom said he should be able to memorize the clue. Most racers mess up because they
are too quick to read the clue wrong.

The thing with Adrian/Colin was that, they were both physically fit alpha males. Adrian being deaf did not hinder them in the race.
While here, both mom and son don't look like they're physically fit. At least last season, the son was fit and muscular (but lacked brains) and he carried the team. |

Hey guys!! I don't go on here often, but now that my old friend, Luke Adams is on the show there is no doubt I'll be more active on this board than
ever! ;)
Anything u wanna know about Luke, ask me! :) I knew him pretty well and we also graduated college and in our majors together. I visited Luke's home one time back in 2004. His Mom, Margie was absolutely an sweetheart! She offered my friend and I a place to stay when we were traveling about 14 hours from Missouri to their home to drop Luke off. Luke in fact introduced me to this site back in 2003 (yep he's that big of a fan!) when we first met and became fast friends. We immediately bonded over Survivor, The Amazing Race, etc. The second we met, we were already fast in deep conversation about Survivor and TAR that which unexpectedly turned into about 4 hours of convo! He was the ONLY true devout reality TV fan that I knew from college, other than myself! If any of you guys want his myspace, I can provide the link! :D I think Luke is going to make fantastic TV and I'm pretty positive he's going to be entertaining as hell too! Kudos to the CBS producers for picking Luke and his Mom for the show! |

Question about Luke; how deaf is he? I remember Adrian wasn't completely deaf, and he actually spoke quite a bit (even though the producers felt the need
to put subtitles). Luke, as far as I can tell, didn't say anything in his interview.
If he's completely deaf and can't speak, I wonder if they'll translate the signs he makes ON the race (when his mother can't speak for him to the camera). |
