I probably wouldn't have thought much about it if I hadn't already known it was a true story. I've only skimmed through the book, but I just feel
so sad for Bobby. I can't imagine going through what he did.

I don't normally cry at movies unless maybe a pet dies. I was fine for most of the movie (knowing what happened and seeing a million previews maybe
helped). My eyes started to fill a little when the brother was yelling he was sorry. I started to cry at the end when Sigourney gave her speech and then I was
like, "oh god, they're going to show a picture of the real Bobby at the end." I watched it over a friend's house, and it really didn't
sink in until I was on my way home. It was just so fucking sad. Even though I knew exactly what happened, there was a part inside of me that was saying,
"maybe someone will stop him." One question, though. Right before Bobby drove to the overpass, he stopped outside a club. Was that his boyfriend
coming out with another guy or just a couple (and Bobby realizing he'll never be happy)?

It looked like the boyfriend to me. I think that was the stray that broke the camel's back.
I remember the news story way back when, when it happened.... |

I'm going out to get the book today. I'm a little confused, though, if it was David. Obviously, the timeline may not be completely accurate, but in the
movie, Bobby called David, drove to the bar, saw David, and then went and killed himself (and his brother later said there was no note or anything). Unless
Bobby wrote something in his journal before killing himself, there's no way to really know if that was David at the club (unless the real David admitted to
it; again, I hope to get the book today to give me more answers).

Whatever. She was just like my mother and I didn't kill myself. Where's my fucking TV movie?

I'm reading the book now because, apparently, I want to cry like a baby a little more.

I just finished the book. Obviously, there's more detail than in the movie. There's a lot of exploration on Mary's life before marriage and after
Bobby's death. And, a couple details are juxtaposed in the movie, but there are some really interesting things. I don't think the movie does justice
to the pain Bobby was feeling, even though some of his journal entries are told in the movie. There was so much self-hatred and anger. He was also a lot more
promiscuous. That wasn't explored in the movie, and a lot of it played into his self-hatred. He was really torn between being himself and feeling guilty
for being himself. His oldest sister, Joy, was also a bigger part of his life (in the span of the movie) than the movie portrays. And, this is the thing that
confuses me and angers me the most. There is no David (or person with a different name). Bobby never really had a serious relationship. There was no phone
call before he committed suicide, hoping David was there. It bothers me that they had to Hollywood it up like that. The story is plenty good without anything
added.
